Caldwell Women’s Basketball Wins at Lock Haven, 76-71

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Caldwell University women's basketball team picked up its second win in a row with a 76-71 victory over Lock Haven University Saturday night at Thomas Fieldhouse. The Cougars even their record at 2-2 on the season, while the Eagles drop to 0-4.

Lock Haven scored the first seven points of the game and built a 15-8 lead over the first six minutes. Caldwell responded by reeling off 17 straight points, including two three-pointers by senior guard Devin Gold (New Hope, PA/Council Rock North) and six points from freshman forward Karlie O'Driscoll (Sharon, MA/Sharon), to take a 25-15 lead. The Eagles cut the deficit to seven with 2:24 left in the half before a three from sophomore guard Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, NY/Ardsley) keyed a 6-0 run to close the period with a 38-25 halftime edge. The Cougars held Lock Haven to 23.7 percent shooting from the field in the first half.

Junior guard Nicole Angelo (Mount Laurel, NJ/Camden Catholic) opened the second half with a three to give Caldwell its biggest lead of the game, 41-25. But the Eagles were not deterred, mounting a comeback with a 24-8 run over the next nine minutes to tie the score at 49-49 with 11 minutes to play. The Cougars never surrendered the lead, getting 10 points from senior forward Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) in taking a 69-59 advantage with two minutes left. That 20-10 run proved to be too much to overcome for Lock Haven, which came within four points in the final minute of the game but would get no closer.

Caldwell ended up shooting 46.0 percent from the field for the game compared to 30.4 percent for the Eagles. Caswell tallied her third straight double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds to go with three steals. Pilla had 14 points, while junior forward Lisa Rovatsos (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) added eight points and 11 boards. Senior guard Jessica Coscia (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) dished out five assists to go with six points. Kirsti Bair led Lock Haven with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Caldwell begins Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at Felician College. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. in Rutherford, N.J.
