Halloween Spooktacular is Tonight

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department will sponsor a Halloween Spooktacular this evening from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at the Flaherty Park Community Center. To learn more, check out our two-minute video below.

Tickets on Sale for "Another Evening with Marcus Anderson" 

The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre will commemorate its first year of bringing extraordinary and diverse cultural and performing arts experiences to the Wake Forest Community on Saturday, Nov. 1, during "Another Evening with Marcus Anderson." A fan favorite at Wake Forest's Six Sundays in Spring concert series and last November's Celebration of the Arts, Anderson's explosive on-stage energy shows in all his live performances. In addition to Anderson's dynamic performance, the event will include a buffet dinner and cash bar. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 on the day of the event and include the buffet dinner. Tickets may be purchased online with a Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express credit card. Support Grace Boudah in the Uncle Ben's National Cooking Contest

We need your help! Please support Grace Boudah in the Uncle Ben's National Cooking Contest. If Grace's video wins, then Heritage Middle School will win $30,000 and Uncle Ben's will also host a Wake Forest Hometown Celebration! Grace Boudah is a 6th grader at Heritage Middle. She is currently learning to cook in a Consumer Sciences class. Grace is creative and loves music, art, and drama, along with cooking and baking. She also plays CASL soccer, as well as Upward and Wake Forest Recreation basketball. Grace is currently a member of Heritage Middle School's Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the HMS Patriot Pride Choir. In addition, she was chosen to be a 6th grade student representative in the HMS Bully Buster Leadership Program. Please support Grace in representing Wake Forest in this National Contest and help Heritage Middle School win $30,000! The voting began Oct. 15 and ends Oct. 29. Time is running out, so please vote for Grace's video daily through Oct. 29. on every electronic device you have access to at home or work (if allowed) - including ipad, tablets, ipod, phones, and computers. Angel Tree Application Notification

Hope House and BJ's Angel Tree program application process will begin Oct. 16 and continue through Nov. 5. We will accept applications from parents with children from ages newborn to 13 years old at 334 North Allen Road, Wake Forest, on Thursdays from noon to 1 pm and from 6:30 to 7 pm and on Saturdays from noon to 1 pm. YMCA's We Build People Campaign is Underway

The Kerr Family YMCA and the YMCA at The Factory kicked off the annual We Build People campaign on Thursday, Oct. 2. Nearly 200 volunteers launched the YMCA's Annual Campaign to raise funds for children, teens, families and adults who cannot afford vital YMCA programs. The Annual Campaign provides scholarships and financial assistance for all Y programs, including Y Learning, the YMCA's standardized tutorial program, summer day camps, after school programs, youth sports and adult fitness programs. 100% of every dollar given to the YMCA Annual Campaign is invested in the lives of people who need the Y. To join their cause as a volunteer, stop by either branch - or donate online. 

 


Community Council Seeks Nominations for Volunteer Awards

The Wake Forest Community Council is seeking nominations for its annual volunteer awards, including the Peggy Allen Lifetime Achievement Award, the Citizen of the Year Award, and the Club of the Year Award. Nomination forms and instructions are available online. The deadline for submission is Nov. 5. Award recipients will be announced at the Wake Forest Community Christmas Dinner on December 1, 2014. The Community Council is comprised of area civic, service, social, fraternal, religious, and business organizations, as well as interested individuals. Tickets Now on Sale for Wake Forest Christmas Historic Home Tour 

The Wake Forest Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) and the Wake Forest Woman's Club will present their biennial Christmas Historic Home Tour on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 1 to 7 p.m. Offered only in even-numbered years, the Christmas Historic Home Tour is a self-guided tour featuring several Wake Forest homes and other properties decorated for the holidays and open for viewing. This year's event will also offer free bicycle rickshaw and horse drawn carriage rides, wonderful Christmas music and more. Advance tickets are now on sale for $16 (price includes tax) online and at several area locations.

The Wake Forest Community Calendar is a comprehensive listing of upcoming local events submitted by non-profit groups and organizations in our area. The Town of Wake Forest provides the Community Calendar as a free service and invites local non-profits, including churches, civic clubs and other community organizations, to submit their events for inclusion on the calendar - according to our detailed submission guidelines. The Community Calendar is typically updated each week on Thursday or Friday. Event announcements received at least one week prior to the event will be included for publication in The Week Ahead. Halloween Spooktacular

Thursday, Oct. 23; 6:30 pm

Flaherty Park Community Center, 1226 N. White St.

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department will sponsor its annual Halloween Spooktacular on Thursday, Oct. 23, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Flaherty Park Community Center, 1226 N. White St. Admission to the event is free. This year's festivities will include a costume contest, face painting, a haunted maze and cupcake walk, along with a variety of other ghostly games and activities, and free pumpkin giveaways - while supplies last. This year's event will also feature two new tasty vendors as Jay's Italian Ice and Oscar William's Cotton Candy will be on site selling yummy treats throughout the evening. Classical Series - Folk Tunes Revisited

Featuring the Free Spirits Ensemble of the Raleigh Symphony Orchestra. The concert will explore the classic folk tunes in new forms! Boo! Hear Wake Forest's Scariest Ghost Stories

The Wake Forest Historical Association will again present raconteur Ryan Keith and his collection of Wake Forest's most hair-raising, back-of-the-neck tingling ghost stories on Sunday, Oct. 26. The free program will begin promptly at 3 pm. If you plan to attend, please make sure to arrive well in advance to get a seat. Late arrivals will disturb and spoil the spell as early arrivers follow the plot of a story. Be polite and make sure to get there on time. There will be refreshments after the program provided by the association's board members. Parking is available in back, at the sides and in front of the museum along North Main Street. Area residents are invited to enjoy the vibrant reds, oranges and yellows of autumn while also learning about native trees during a "Fall Foliage Tour" on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road. Urban Forester Jennifer Rall will offer the free, one-hour tour at 10 a.m. and again at 2 p.m. Parents and children of all ages are welcome and no registration is required. Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to meet at the information kiosk located adjacent to the Joyner Park parking lot. Community & Business Expo

Thursday, Oct. 30; 3 - 7 pm

Wake Forest Charter Academy, 1851 Friendship Chapel Road

The Expo is free of charge and open to the public and business community. This annual event features nearly 100 booth displays by local businesses and non-profits. Door prizes will be given every hour. A Halloween costume contest for children will be held at 6:00 p.m. with the winner receiving a brand-new Xbox. A family entertainment room will feature face painting, a photo booth, and other interactive vendors. There also will be great food to sample from local vendors such as Main Street Grille Pizzeria & Restaurant, Simply Crepes, and Real McCoys Restaurant. Presenting sponsor for the Community & Business Expo is CenturyLink. Gold sponsor is Keller Williams Wake Forest. Locally, the Wake Forest Kiwanis Club is involved in many projects which include: providing dictionaries to all 3rd graders in the schools, sponsoring Key Clubs and Builder's Clubs in local schools, passing out water at the July 4th children's parade, providing scholarships, assisting at school cookouts, Salvation Army bell ringers, Wake Forest Christmas Parade, toy drives, food drives, Foster Kids Christmas Party, school supply collection, Lobster Bingo and many others. Purr Partners in a non profit feline rescue group. Every Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm and Sunday from noon to 4 pm we hold an adoption at the Wake Forest Pet Smart. We are in desperate need of funds to continue to rescue and rehabilitate cats and kittens that we get from high kill shelters.
