NEW ORLEANS – Left out of the first two polls of the season, the University of Mary barged into the national rankings after an impressive performance in the Marauders first outdoor meet of the year. After posting four NCAA provisional qualifying marks last weekend, U-Mary debuts at #14 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division II Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Team Computer Rankings.
The Marauders captured ten of 18 events at the Yellow Jacket Spring Open, the first outdoor competition of the season.
Danylle Kurywchak currently leads the nation in the triple jump. The junior All-American sailed 41' 4.5" to post the best mark in the nation. It is also an NCAA provisional qualifying distance. Additionally Kurywchak is 13
th nationally in the long jump.
Seven-time All-American
Kathryn Stewart ranks eighth nationally in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.87. It is also a provisional qualifying mark. Stewart also ranks ninth in the 200.
Stewart is also part of the U-Mary 4x100 meter relay team with
Tonie Pandohie,
Melanie Rodriguez and
Cassandra Jones that ranks seventh nationally with a provisional qualifying time of 46.88 seconds.
Davina Carr is currently ninth in the country in the pole vault after clearing a height of 11' 11.76", which is a provisional qualifier.
The Marauders next compete at the Vance Butler Invitational in Sioux Falls, S.D., on April 3.
