‘Supernatural’ surprise: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles on board through season 13
Yesterday, The CW announced the glorious news that “Supernatural” will be coming back for its 12th season this fall. What may be even more glorious news is learning that the groundwork is already in place for there to be a thirteenth.
According to Deadline, show stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles already had contracts in place for the two of them to continue doing the show for two more years provided that the network wants them. There is no guarantee of a season 13 just yet, but given current ratings and fan response we’d be shocked to see it end before then.
Is it possible that the series could even go into a season 14 or 15? In theory, it’s certainly possible. What we know at the moment is that network programming head Mark Pedowitz is a noted fan of the show, and if it continues to make money he’s thrilled to keep it around. Everyone involved also still seems to enjoy making it, even if it does at times require strange hours and working extremely long days. The benefits ultimately outweigh any of the negatives that come as a result.
Now that we’ve said all of this, let’s just hope that there are some fun storylines to come. The show has already made some bold moves this season courtesy of Castiel / Lucifer and also the whole overarcing story with Amara, so it will be rather interesting to see how they opt to tie some of these up. Of course, we’ll have some more insight into all of that and then some when it is made clear to us.

It’s astonishing that crap like this gets renewed year after year while the really well done, well acted shows like Downton Abbey end after only a few.

Personally I really dig Supernatural; it’d be nice to see more Downton but many cast members seemed ready to move on

This is a great show or it wouldn’t continually get renewed for 12 seasons, possibly 13. Downton Abbey was a good show as well, but with so many main characters leaving, viewers lost interest. And I think that has been one of the main draws of Supernatural, the main characters have stayed with the show. Along with great writing and some humor. Every show needs a little humor in it.

Especially one like this — you really get the sense that Jared and Jensen enjoy doing it, and the family that has come out of it, as well.

You know they’ve had many laughs through the years. My favorites are when Dean gets infected with the scary ghost virus (he screams and drops the light), him in the mental hospital (pudding), them walking into the gym listening to kids sing their life story, and I could keep going. But you’re right, without them it would be crap.

Maybe it’s because the rest of the world realizes this is an incredible show and downtown Abbey isn’t. Never seen it honestly, but obviously you haven’t watched the whole show. Go on Netflix and start at the beginning (it’s a little scary at the beginning, especially episode 3 or 4 I think) but give it a real try. It has it all: horror, comedy, suspense and even a little love. I’m not trying to put down your show, a lot of shows get cancelled that I don’t think should have, but you put down my boys.

That’s good news about Jared and Jensen, but what about Misha? Without him the show would lose a big draw for me. Also I agree that the Lucifer storyline is cool–he’s an exciting character and it’s been electrifying to see him portrayed by Mark P and Misha. But the Amara storyline I don’t get at all. She could have been such a cool character, and she’s supposed to be this big menace, but she doesn’t actually do anything much except creep on Dean. God’s sister reduced to love interest? I don’t get it. Hopefully there’s some kind of reveal or twist coming that will jazz it up.

Trust me, Misha isn’t going anywhere. The supporting cast isn’t exactly in high demand elsewhere

Thank you for trying to ease my nerves, although it seems uncalled for to take digs at Misha in a reply to me as a clearly declared Misha fan. And I wasn’t really nervous about Misha’s end of the deal. Demand or not, I’m pretty sure Misha wants to stay on SPN if they want to sign him. Do they have the good sense to sign him on for as many seasons as the Js, that’s what I and all the other Misha fans want to know.

I love the show and the guys… but this is also a business for them. All the conventions, etc. They will never have to work again. I just hope they (producers) will not let the show end with Sam and Dean’s death as Jensen and Jared had said they wanted. Everything I have bought and the emotions I have invested would be worthless in my mind.
