Last week, we heard Meghan Trainor’s increasingly popular hit “All About That Bass” performed on kazoos and xylophones. Now, we get to hear it played on an actual upright bass — and it’s rather lovely.
This is the latest video from Postmodern Jukebox, the YouTube channel known for putting vintage, jazzy spins on today’s Top 40 hits. (Remember their surprisingly great doo-wop cover of Pitbull and Kesha’s “Timber?”) The videos feature a variety of talented performers. In this case, the star is musician Kate Davis. As Postmodern Jukebox’s Scott Bradlee writes:
The incredibly talented young performer you are watching is Kate Davis, and she’s the real deal. Not only does she possess the kind of voice that will take you back to the days of Billie Holiday, but she can also shred on the upright bass. You know what to do, internet – let’s make her famous, because she deserves it.
