Emergent situation, Mackay

Police have declared an emergent situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act following an incident in Mackay tonight.

Around 8.45pm police responded to reports of a disturbance at a Burston Street residence.

Police received information that a man may be armed inside the address and an emergent situation was declared.

The PSPA has been declared between the areas of Burston Street bounded by Malcomson Street, Valley Street, High Street, Berry Street and straight line from Norris Road back to Malcomson, with motorists advised to avoid the area.

Residents in the vicinity are being asked to stay indoors while police respond to the situation.
