Women's Soccer Earns Two Awards for Sportsmanship

HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton College women's soccer has been recognized by two organizations for their fair play and ethical behavior on the field during the 2014 season.

The 2014 team has earned a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Silver Award and the National Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association NCCAA Division I Sportsmanship Award.

The NSCAA Silver Award goes to teams who accumulate between 1 and 5 yellow cards and no red cards during the season. It is the 13th time the program has earned the Silver Award. A total of 79 men's and women's teams across all college divisions received the Silver Award. A total of 118 teams earned either a gold (no yellow cards), silver or bronze award.

The award from NISOA is tallied from voting among officials who have worked Houghton's games during the 2014 season and recognizes outstanding sportsmanship and character on the field of competition.

Houghton finished the season with a record of 10-9-1 and advanced to the semifinals of the NCCAA National Tournament.
