Following the death of horror filmmaker Wes Craven at 76, Syfy has released a statement pledging to move forward in his memory.

“Wes Craven was an icon. Syfy mourns the loss of this great visionary who helped shape an entire generation of horror,” reads the statement. “We are honored to have had the opportunity to work with him and, along with Universal Cable Productions, will continue to develop The People Under the Stairs and We Are All Completely Fine — projects to which Wes had already contributed so greatly — in his spirit.”

Universal Cable Productions has also released a statement:

“Wes Craven was a master artist, a gentleman and it was our pleasure to work with him. It is our intention to bring to life all the projects Wes developed at Universal Cable Productions. Thankfully these projects have benefitted greatly from his development and guidance since their inception. They will continue in his honor and spirit.”

In April, Craven signed a deal to develop two shows to air on NBCUniversal network Syfy: a new version of his 1991 movie The People Under the Stairs and the project We Are All Completely Fine. The legendary filmmaker was also developing a show for UCP called Disciples, about three “deep-space” private eyes in the near future. Craven was set to executive-produce with Steve Niles, who wrote the original graphic novel.

“Universal Cable Productions is the home of an amazing slate of TV programming and I’m delighted to be working with them,” Craven said at the time. “Fasten your seatbelts.”
