#WOUSoccer Fights Hard Against Seattle Pacific

SEATTLE, Wash. – Despite knowing that its playoff hopes had already come to an end earlier in the evening after a win by Central Washington sealed the final four teams for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) playoffs, Western Oregon University's soccer team fought hard before falling against Seattle Pacific University, 3-0, Thursday at Interbay Stadium.

Despite a combined 15 shots in the first half that included an 11-to-4 advantage for the host Falcons, neither team could find the back of the net resulting in a scoreless tie at halftime. Over the opening 45 minutes of play, the weather played a large factor with rain soaking the field and coming down so hard at times that it was hard to see.

In the second half, Seattle Pacific upped its shot total registering 16 that included nine on-target. The Falcons scored three unanswered goals within a 35-minute span, as Seattle Pacific moved into a two-way tie for second place in the GNAC standings with one game remaining in the regular season.

SPU's Hannah Huesers broke the scoreless tie at 48:35 on an assist by Isabel Farrell, as Huesers netted her team-leading 13th goal of the season on a breakaway that resulted in a 15-yard shot into the lower right corner of the goal for the eventual game-winner.

Demi Waitley netted her first goal of the season just over three minutes later on an assist by Laura Moore, as Moore sent a through ball to Waitley before she unloaded an 18-yard shot into the upper right side of the net that helped SPU's lead increase to two goals.

In the 84th minute, SPU's Ali Martin netted her first goal of the year when she lofted a shot from 28 yards away up and over WOU's goalkeeper after collecting a loose ball outside the penalty area.

Western Oregon's goalkeeping duo of Amanda Rose Johnson and Hillary Lutz combined to register 10 saves, as Johnson tallied four saves over the opening 45 minutes of play before giving way to Lutz for the second half where she registered a game-high six saves between the pipes for the Wolves. Seattle Pacific's Molly Stinson needed to register only two saves en route to earning the win.

As a team, Seattle Pacific tallied a combined 27 shots versus Western Oregon's six.

Western Oregon will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, November 1, against the Saints of Saint Martin's University beginning at 2:00 p.m. in Lacey, Washington.
