Battle

Rate this book
A battle is fought by soldiers on the ground in a time of war. Or at least that’s what I used to think.

I’ve never had to fight for anything in my perfectly planned life, and I certainly never thought I’d have to fight for love.

I was wrong.

One wild, carefree night, and one stupid dare made me realize you can’t appreciate love until you’re forced to fight for it. I want the complex, sexy bull rider who stole my heart in the middle of a deserted wheat field. But Battle McCoy doesn’t believe in love.

What do you do when you aren’t prepared for battle? When someone you care for becomes your greatest enemy? And your surrender is imminent?

I’m going to fight.

There’s a chance he’ll destroy me, but my heart will go to war to make him mine.

Battle. Holy. Wow.
Can anybody say 'New Book Boyfriend'? I certainly can. KJ Bell has a way of writing her men in just that right way that you absolutely adore them right from the very beginning. Battle was no different.

Battle is a broken man, right from a boy he was never wanted by his daddy. He doesn't know how to love and he doesn't believe love exists. Anything he has ever loved has been ripped away from him.
Faye. After reading about Faye for a while you could tell she used to be weak, but right from the first few pages she is strong. She pulls on her big girl panties and says a big F you to her long term boyfriend. He was a lying cheating arse who didn't deserve Faye or her big heart.

“Faye, honey, life's like a game of chess, one wrong move and it's game over.”

While Faye is copping about her broken relationship her BFF's are planning operation 'get Faye to have a one night stand.' Queue Faye too claim 'that isn't something she would do' & 'she's only ever been with douchbag'
There is only one way to stop a girl from mopping.... a night out with the girls! Faye isn't for this idea but her friends talk her round. A night out at the bull riding is just what they need. Sexy men, adrenaline and a few drinks afterwards.... which just happens too be at the same bar that the riders often frequent. Coincidence? I think not.

Battle is in the ring, When Battle & Faye lock eyes the attraction is almost immediate. The pull Faye feels confuses her, she's never felt this pull, this spark, this attraction before and she isn't sure how too explain it, so she does the only thing she knows how. Shrugs it off!

Battle is attracted too Faye, but can see the innocence she processes so he decides too keep away and not mess with her innocence. How long can he keep away when her friends are pushing her too talk too him, too get him too leave with her? Will he be tempted b Faye? Of course he will. He gives her the cold shoulder, ignores her and none of it works because he just gets jealous when one of his mates starts to dance with her. Its only then that Battle makes his move.

Faye falls for Battle that same night. Never did she think she would find herself with another guy, much less falling in love.. and in a corn field of all places. That corn field will stay with Faye forever. It was the one night she felt wanted, she felt beautiful and she knew she wanted more. Battle made it clear too Faye that it would just be one night, he never wanted more and he would never marry anyone. He has never wanted the middle and he's happy with just sex. How will Faye take that? Will she want just sex?

“I want the Middle”

That text changes everything. This text too me, showed more about Battle than the majority of the book did. It shows he does have a heart and he is willing to open up to love. It may be a long painful process but I think Faye may be able to crack the steel walls around Battle's heart.
With things looking up for Battle and Faye, there is always drama round the corner. Is the happily ever after too good too be true or will Battle finally get the love he didn't know he wanted? Faye & Battle have a long road ahead of them but will it be one that leads too eachother?

After reading Battle I had a massive book hangover. I finished reading at 3am and then continued to mule over the story and the hunky Battle. Holy smokes this book will stay with me and possibly be one of a few that I will reread. KJ has done it again. 5* review for a 5* Author. I think I'm fast becoming a KJ Bell groupie and who can blame me after giving us Tug then Battle!!! This lady know how too write sexy men!!

HOT DAMN! Battle McCoy is one sexy HOT bull-ridin' cowboy you do not want to miss out on<3 <3 Brilliant story! Can't wait for you all to meet Faye and Battle.

When I first started Battle by K.J. Bell I thought it was going to be a book about some dirty talking, egotistical, sex-on-a-stick cowboy...Boy was I wrong. Battle McCoy is so much more than I gave him credit for. The story may be named after the main character, but is it? Could it be named for the struggle - the Battle - of two people willing to fight for love and acceptance.

I absolutely loved the characters in this story. They were genuine and I felt immediately connected. Faye was tired of being told how to live her life, the life that was expected of her. Wanting more out of life, fate would throw her a curve ball when she met Battle McCoy. With a reputation for being everything she has been taught to stay away from, she chooses to take a chance. Instead of dealing with the hand life has dealt him, he builds a persona that would keep any woman with half a brain, far, far away... Until he meets Faye. Battle and Faye are both strong characters. Faye is anything but a victim, she refuses to settle in life and is willing to fight for what she believes in. I LOVED her character. Once you get to know the real Battle McCoy, he will melt your heart - along with your socks and panties off! Just sayin' ;-)

An angsty, but not over the top angst, read that was packed full of heartfelt sexual tension. There is some HOT sexy time in the book so make sure to have a fan close by ;-) Battle had me wanting more after every page. I laughed with the characters and I cried with the characters. I fell in love with not only Battle and Faye, but their family and friends. Thank you KJ Bell again, for giving me another family of amazing characters to love.
Even if you aren't into "cowboy" reads, I really think you will enjoy this story.

If you are looking for an incredible love story, Battle, by K.J. Bell, is one not to be missed.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this story. Battle McCoy and Faye Callahan’s story was heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time for me. They are total opposites that have issues in their life that keeps them from moving forward for a long time until that one spontaneous night of being together changed everything.

“I believe a couple can have an instant connection, but that’s not love. Love’s an emotion cultivated over time. It grows with trust, with every touch. Every stolen glance, and every kiss, until it eventually consumes you.”

This is my first book by KJ Bell and it definitely did not disappoint. The 5 stars read had me at “I want the middle” with a poignant ride of emotions throughout the novel. A must-read that will give you a new found meaning of loving again!

“Life has a way of working out exactly as it’s supposed to.” “When you find him, Faye, never let him go.”
~ Grammy
“Love’s an emotion cultivated over time. It grows with trust, with every touch, every stolen glance, and every kiss, until eventually it consumes you.” ~ Faye

Faye Callahan had her entire life mapped out for her and she just went with it. She was miserable but according to her father “a good plan paved the way to a happy future.” She went to the school of his choice, got a job of his liking and she is in line to marry the guy of his choice. Faye has been dating Wyatt for a while and he seems like the perfect husband material, if only he could treat her the way she should be treated. They have been drifting apart over the past few years and seems to be more focused on his needs and himself instead of Faye. But even though he doesn’t treasure her, she can’t imagine her life without him. Faye has always put the needs of others before hers, she has finally done with putting her happiness on the back burner. She’s done waiting on the side while he explores his other options. She’s done being the good girl. But is she ready to put the familiar aside for something different?

“I think I’m a good girl. The responsible type. One who makes smart choices and does the right thing.” ~ Faye

Battle McCoy hasn’t had an easy life growing up. He keeps to himself as much as possible and lives life on the edge. He doesn’t believe in love because love doesn’t exist in his world. He is broken. He uses women and tosses them as fast as they come. As a popular bull rider on tour, he tempts fate every chance he gets in front of the large crowds. The people love it, he feeds off of their adrenaline.

“Love and I aren’t on good terms, sweetheart, and we never will be.” ~ Battle

“People don’t come with labels that tell ya what’s inside. We create
expectations of who we’re supposed to be, and how we’re supposed to act, but eventually, who we are surfaces. We do somethin’ unexpected, like tonight. These are the moments that make us unique.” ~ Battle

One look out in the crowds and he spots Faye and the chemistry between the two of them is indescribable. It begins the growing and undeniable attraction between the pair. With some liquid courage and a dare, Faye goes up to Battle. This is something Faye never does. But for once she is doing something for herself. He tries to stay away from her as best as he can, ignoring her. She pushes, he pulls away. That is until she starts to dance on the dance floor and one of his friends has his hands on her. That’s his cue to step in. He can’t resist her any longer. They give in to one night in the wheat fields with one another. (One very hot night in the fields I tell you). The sexual tension between the two of them can be felt from a mile away.

“I want the middle” ~ Battle

Battle doesn’t do relationships so Faye will become one of his many women. But to Faye, that one night changed her forever. For once in her life, she felt cherished. She felt something different with Battle. Although he can’t promise her forever, he be her friend and nothing more. As they get to know each other, Battle gets Faye out of her shell, and lets her do things for herself; gives her confidence. Faye shows Battle that he doesn’t need to be afraid to let people in and that love does exist. I loved watching them both grow together, individually and as a couple. They have a long road ahead of them, but they go through it together.

“You’ve already changed me McCoy. You taught me love can be a surprise. You taught me life isn’t planned.” ~ Faye

I love the secondary characters KJ has in the book as well. Battle and Faye are surrounded by a lot of supportive friends and family. I loved seeing Faye stick up to her parents and Wyatt as well, something she couldn’t have done without Battle. The situations that they have to overcome are big, and secrets from the past will come back to haunt them. But can they overcome them together or will this be one battle that will end them? What will happen when things get to be too much to bear?

There is just enough angst in this book to keep you reading till the very end. Thank goodness this is a standalone. I don’t think I could handle this being part of a series. Battle will show you how to love with a broken heart, forgive, and give you the confidence you need to stand up for yourself. You will absolutely fall in love with the characters in this book. KJ does a wonderful job with them, that you will feel like a part of the group yourself.

Review by Jen Hagen
Let me introduce you to my new book boyfriend, Battle McCoy. He is all kinds of sexy from his name to his swagger, and everything in between…or should I say “the middle?”

Faye is a self-proclaimed people pleaser. She has been in a long-term relationship with Wyatt, and he appears to have a commitment phobia, asking for several breaks but to keep it hush-hush from their parents. Both sets of parents expect them to marry and both sets of parents are hung up on what the combined names would mean for their benefit. Wyatt is a douchebag…for lack of a better term. Faye can do so much better than him, but she is scared of the unknown.

I question if he’s an actual piece to my puzzle, or if I’m forcing him to fit because I’m afraid of what will happen if he doesn’t.

Faye has very good friends and what do friends do when one of them just breaks up with the boyfriend? They take her out and get her drunk, throwing a dare in there for good measure.

“If any guy’s worthy of poppin’ your one-night stand cherry, it’s Battle McCoy. I’ll bet a hundred bucks you won’t do it.”

Battle is a professional bull rider, but for reasons unknown to the general public he stays close to home on the circuit even though he is good enough to go on the nation tour. Battle doesn’t do love. He has it engrained in him that love will only end up hurting him when the person he has holding his heart leaves him broken. Battle is known in the gossip world as being a man who knows his way around the women.

Initially Battle seemed to cast a few interested glances towards Faye, but as the evening wears on it seems like his look of lust has turned into a look of disgust. Faye is dumbfounded by this turn of events, but still takes matters into her own hands…literally.

As I look down watching my hand work him, I decide this is who I want to be. If only for tonight, I want to forget what’s expected of me.

Oh my Lord…their sex scene was HOT HOT HOT. Battle is something else…okay moving on.

Battle and Faye have a lot of work to do if they want to take it to the next level and see where it leads them. They have to work against a manipulative ex-boyfriend, her parents who deem Battle a rebel, a friend who is now a competitive enemy, and also against Battle himself.

Life has been cruel to him. Memories plague Battle and have hardened him. He’s built walls to protect himself, walls so thick I’m not sure I’m capable of tearing them down.

Battle and Faye have a unique way of finding out each other’s secrets. It is through a game of dice and that seems to be the only time that Battle is willing to give out the answers to his dark secrets, and there a few of them. In fact, there is one particularly dark secret that may end up destroying the trust between them. But before that secret is revealed, we have to hit the road of angst. This road is stomach plummeting with hair-pin turns. I will gladly pay any tolls required though because it is too delicious to find another path.

“You tell me you don’t love me, and I’m gone.”

He laughs from deep in his chest, but maintains my gaze, his dormant, and void of its usual vibrant intensity. “I don’t love you.”

I love, LOVE angst and Ms. Bell can write it like it was made for only her to write. Have you read her Irreparable series? I rest my case…angst like no other.

Battle is a unique individual and he will settle deep inside your heart. I found this to be a quick read that incorporated everything I like in a book – humor, sexy scenes, angst, and a happy ending. You want to know what else I like about Battle? The cover…it’s PERFECT. I love how a cover ties into the story. Now about the middle I mentioned at the beginning…I’ll be in the middle with Battle any day.

Battle is about love and submission for love. Faye is a lovable person who wants the elusive Battle, but only for a fling right? Well he's an ass to her when they meet and she decides to suck it up and piss him off. It works their chemistry is love in the making. But according to Faye it's not love at first sight because both of them don't believe in that. But Battle decides he can only give her one night and she agrees. But what if one night wasn't enough for either of them? Battle tries to show her he can do the middle, but Faye she can't believe it until she sees it. Their battle together is passionate and heartbreaking. I totally cried and fell in love with both of these characters. You will enjoy trying to watch these two decide if they can actually be together or say the heck with it. Enjoy you won't want to put it down.

No cliffhanger
Standalone
Told from Faye's POVs
Minor editing errors. Nothing that takes away from the story.

I honestly didn't except much from this book. I have had it on my wish list for a while now and saw it was free so I got it. I didn't expect to be pulled in from the very first charger but I was and I couldn't put it down.

Battle doesn't believe in love. Everyone he loves dies so why would he ever risk it. Faye seems to change all that. Or at least you hope she does.

When they meet he doesn't seem to have any interest in her, despite her best efforts... Or at least he wants her to believe that.

Battle ends up being one of the most tender and romantic H's I have read about in a long time. That doesn't mean he isn't an alpha male too though and the intimate scenes get pretty intense.

There is a huge twist at the end I didn't see coming that I won't give away but I was so happy to see the growth of both characters throughout the book.

This book is a surprise and delight. I would definitely recommend it!

I received a copy of this story for an honest review for The Reading Room Blog.

Generally I'm not into cowboy themed romances so going into Battle by KJ Bell I wasn't sure what I was jumping into. But there was just something about that cover that I couldn't resist (I wonder what that is...). I'm happy to report I found an original romance with two fully developed leads that had great spark and connection.

Faye Callahan has had her whole life laid out for her. Get the degree from the right school, get the right job, marry the right guy. But when Mr. Right cheats on her for the umpteenth time, Faye decides her plan desperately needs a shake up. She never guessed her attempt at living it up would lead to a wild night with professional bull rider Battle McCoy.

Battle McCoy has seen the ugly side of love and has vowed to live without it. When a nervous Faye propositions him, he sees through her bravado and her innocence both repels and attracts him. His vow of one night proves hollow when Faye begins to consume his every thought.

Can these two opposites deviate from what they know for a chance of happiness?

What I Loved: Battle is unique in having it's leads Faye and Battle jump into a steamy one night stand only to back off from the physical to develop a real and lasting relationship. I could feel the sexual tension between the characters but the slow burn added something to their attempts to get to know each other. It helped me connect with Faye and Battle on a deeper level. I wanted them to get a happy ever after and cheered when they did.

What I Didn't Love: Several of the secondary characters in Battle at times made me want to scream. Faye's pushy father, her dismissive mother, her egotistical ex, her questioning girlfriends... there was no support system for the heroine and it was difficult to believe that such a smart character would put up with being pushed around or ignored for as long as Faye did.

Favorite Quotes:

"God help me if I'm not one hundred percent smitten with the devil himself."

"He's larger than life, egotistical, an often vulgar, but he has an enormous heart."

"You taught me love can be a surprise. You've taught me life isn't planned. You've also taught me that a love like ours can't be ignored. You can push me away all you want, but my heart will always be yours."

Overall Battle is a fun and engaging romance that I can easily recommend. You don't need to be a cowboy fan to enjoy this great read (but you may just walk away one.). I will definitely be one the look out for more reads from KJ Bell.

Happy reading.

I call DIBS on Battle McCoy! Okay, since I have officially claimed Battle, now let me talk about the story. This book was amazing! Days after I finished, I was still thinking about it – still processing it. At 22% I had to message the author and tell her how I felt about Battle. I told her I didn't just love him, I ‘LOVE LOVE’ him. ◄ big difference. I was consumed by him, intrigued by him, obsessed with him. This sexy character had me sneak-reading at work, and I told Ms. Bell that if I got into trouble, it was her fault and she would have to explain it to my boss.

This is another well-written story by KJ Bell that hooked me from the first chapter. I am always more than satisfied with this author’s writing; smooth, flawless, eloquent. In just one small paragraph, she can create a scene that is easily visualized and makes you feel like you are there inside the story. Example:

“He stares at me through the metal cage in front of his helmet, his eyes so pure and so blue they should shine with the warmth of a summertime sky, but they chill my blood and send goose bumps up my arms. It’s the focused scrutiny behind his gaze that makes me shiver and melt at the same time.”

After reading that, I swear it was me that Battle was staring at. The FEELS that this story brings will have you turning page after page after page. I didn’t want to put it down. There are also plenty of panty-melting scenes that will have you fanning yourself – and then re-reading those parts because they were so good. (or am I the only one that does that?) Like the scene on the Mustang. Seriously…trust me…read it…you’ll know what I’m talking about. That part is so hot, you’ll either need your significant other asap, or a cold shower. I would love to play the drinking game with Battle. ♥

All of the characters in the story are amazing:
Faye Callahan – A feisty, strong heroine who you can’t help but wish was your best friend. She’s sexy & sassy, too! Battle McCoy (mine) – A super sexy, charming cowboy…he’s misunderstood, he’s SO GOOD, he will own your heart. I want the middle with Battle McCoy! Even the secondary characters are fabulous! Ms. Bell’s characters are always written with the perfect amount of sexiness & sassiness.

When I finished this book, I felt like I just got off an amusement park ride – happily delirious with a book hangover. I am a huge fan of Ms. Bell – like, super HUGE. Battle gets 5 well-deserved stars from me. I highly recommend this!

There is no amount of amour that can protect your heart from Battle..

And all it took was just four words....

I want the middle

Battle McCoy is a bull rider. A popular one at that with a reputation for loving and leaving the ladies. He has no room in his life for a relationship. He stays focused on his career and his family that is until he meets Faye.

Faye has always followed the rules to please everyone else, perfect. Her life has been planned out by her parents and even her boyfriend. After having her heart broken for the last time she decides to break the rules and take a walk on the wild side. Little did she know that accepting a dare, would forever change her outlook on life and love.
When Battle meets Faye, he can see she isn’t a typical groupie but there is something about her that intrigues him. He had every intention of ignoring her and then when he sees her dancing, all his good intentions fly out the window. *insertcrazyhotchemistryandjackdanielshere*

One night, in the middle of a field will change them both *fansselfoff*
As we all know, love doesn’t come easy and sometimes you have to fight for what you want. We all know that in the end, no one’s hearts are safe from Battle.

It was a great story with such amazing characters. Faye: I was glad to see her get a back bone in all aspects of her life. It was like Battle gave her the strength she didn't know she had. He unleashed something in her by just wanting her... it made her strong and it brought her true self out. She was finally able to discover who she is and what she wants in her life.

Battle: He obviously locked his heart up long ago. So jaded by the thought of love. Faye was able to help him rediscover his heart. The one he claims he doesn’t have. Bits and pieces of it would surface through and she knew it was there, buried deep and she helped bring it back to the surface. Faye was everything he never knew he wanted and like they say, you never appreciate what you have until it is gone.

Together they faced war, the war of hearts, love, feelings and truths. What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger. Sometimes it is impossible to win a war when your heart has already surrendered.

CRISTINA'S REVIEW - 5 Stars

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this story. Battle McCoy and Faye Callahan’s story was heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time for me. They are total opposites that have issues in their life that keeps them from moving forward for a long time until that one spontaneous night of being together changed everything.

This is my first book by KJ Bell and it definitely did not disappoint. The 5 stars read had me at “I want the middle” with a poignant ride of emotions throughout the novel. A must-read that will give you a new found meaning of loving again!

LEEANN'S REVIEW - 4.5 Stars

This is a story about a man who's father was such a poor example to him growing up that he 2 feels there is no such thing as love and that there is no way he would be capable of loving a woman and being with her for the rest of his life.

Battle is a rodeo star. He is the champion and excels in the ring every time he gets on the back of a bull. But that is where it stops, or so he believes.
Faye is the perfect daughter and girlfriend. She does exactly what is expected of her because that is how she was brought up. Then she meets Battle and everything changes.

What started out as a dare from Faye's friends turns out to be the love of her life. Only he fights it every step of the way. Even when his life is turned upside down and he needs Faye the most he pushes her away.

Her heart is breaking for him but she respects his wishes and stays away. Until
Until her mother of all people tells her to get up and fight for him.

There is one way Faye knows to get through to him and it is with a game of dice. Then Faye makes a shocking discovery and it could tear them apart forever.. this is their biggest hurdle yet and it is up to Battle to decide if he wants to fight for them or let her go.

This story has some really sad moments but also some really triumphant ones too. Battle and Faye are two really good people who love their friends and family so much but the love the have for each other is huge, and although it is a hard lesson especially for Battle, they do Come to realize they are each great people on their own but together they can do and be anything!

Awesome read!!

Faye Callahan has always followed the rules and allowed her father to map out her future. Smart and with a boyfriend loved by her parents, she wonders if there’s more out there for her, but she’s afraid of being alone.
After frequent “breaks” between her boyfriend Wyatt and her, Faye decides it’s time to finally let him go. Devastated and scared, she has her friends Marty and Ginger to help her get out of her funk.

Battle McCoy is a bull rider with an unfavorable reputation. His “love ‘em and leave ‘em” attitude doesn’t deter women from flocking to him like bees to honey. He doesn’t believe in love and has no room in his life for relationships. His career and family are his only focus, until he meets Faye.

The meeting between Battle and Faye at a rodeo turns into an experience neither can forget. They realize the chemistry between them is undeniable and consider making something out of it.

Battle is jaded and can’t promise her forever, but he does tell her “I want the Middle.” For Faye, this is more than enough for now.

Meeting Battle helps Faye come out and grow a backbone. She proves to be stronger than people give her credit for and her confidence grows once she realizes she is ‘wanted’. Faye helps Battle learn how to let his guard down. He realizes that the heart he believed he didn’t have can be unlocked without fear of being hurt. Both are really good influences for each other.

Bell gives us great characters in Battle and Faye, as well as the secondary characters, which include the amazing friends they each have and their families. Everyone connected to these two is important to the story.

Secrets and a war of emotions threaten to destroy the relationship that Faye and Battle manage to develop, but will their feelings be strong enough to overcome the threats?

Battle is a story of love and forgiveness, with enough sexiness to keep you wanting more. It is a great read that will make you fall in love with the characters and will hold your interest until the very end.

Battle is a bullrider hes focused on his career,he loves and leaves women he has no time or desire for relationships until he meets Faye.
Faye, she has had her whole life sorted out for her they all think they know whats best for her,but when she has her heart broken Faye decides to step out of her comfort zone. She accepts a dare which will change her life forever.
When Battle and Faye meet he realises she isn’t the usual type of woman he loves and leaves, they spend one night together in a deserted field…he tells her its all he can give her one night….neither believe in love….but will this one night be enough?Faye decides she wants it all but can Battle give it to her she sees things in him he keeps hidden things he hasn’t felt in years its just a matter of unlocking his heart.Battle gave Faye something too he gave her the determination to be who she wants to be,she was finally strong and determined in taking back her life…her way.The road to love is rarely easy and these two characters travel that road of uncertainty, fear, heartbreak and love, dealing with feelings and having to stand and fight for what you want. Will they find a way to be together? Can Battle wake and realise what he wants before ts too late/Theres some hot sexy scenes between these two as well as laughter and some tears. There are secondary characters too…family and friends that all have a part in making this a great read that you wont want to put it down until the final page.Read this book you will fall in love with the characters of Faye and Battle!

3.5 stars generously rounded up to 4 stars. This was a good story that probably could have been great if it had been written a little differently. Yes, I know, I'm not an author and you need to take a book like it's written, but I really liked Battle's character and the main female, Faye.

Battle was a bull rider who has sworn off love. Faye was a girl trying to find a new love after she has dumped her long time boyfriend and fiancé after he has asked for another "break" in their relationship. She knows he is just sewing his oats during these breaks and then returning to her vowing to marry her and live the rest of his life with her. But there is always another break. A word to the wise if someone reads this, this beginning part of the book (about Faye and her fiancé) is extremely boring and I almost DNF'd it.

Then Battle enters the scene and he and Faye have a spectacular one night stand. Faye finally knows what she wants, but is Battle willing to put forth the effort and his put his past behind him to make a relationship work.

What I wished was that a few really important things about Battle's past weren't disclosed until the end of the book. I think it would have really helped to know why he hated his father and relationships so much. And, there seemed to be a lot of extraneous things added here and there that really distracted from the story rather than adding to Battle and Faye's story.

But overall, I'm glad I read it and I'll probably find out what K.J. Bell writes in the future.

~~*:Bethany's Review:*~~
Faye was burned by love and is out with the girls to kick back for the night never knowing that a bet would lead her to Battle...McCoy. The sexy bull rider she had an eight second “connection” with at the rodeo that day. She could not shake that look he gave her. She will also never shake the moment they shared in the field, but will the sexy guy with a reputation be able to give her the love she desires?

Battle doesn't allow love in his life. He doesn't feel he deserves it and it has hardly proven to be a good thing in his life up until now. Not until he meets Faye does he realize he needs more than a fling, he wants more.

"I want the middle".

Sometimes you have to fight for love, it can be a battle and I loved going to battle with Battle and Faye. Wow that was a mouthful, but I loved finally being able to add a cowboy to my list of book boyfriends. He was the right blend of sassy, sexy, romantic and even though he has his demons, he is surely someone you want to bring home…to meet your parents of course!

Battle live up to its name, by proving some people are willing to go to battle for true love. The story also has a well rounded cast of secondary characters including ones that make you roll your eyes as well as ones you fall in love with. I love an easy read that has a dash of angst, a hint of humor and a dollop of love. Great read!

"I want the middle."

Those four little words are the most powerful words in Battle McCoy's story. Everything about him can be summed up to the "middle" of a person's life.

KJ Bell has this uncanny ability of writing the douche-like sexy hero that we can't help but cheer for. Battle McCoy is exactly that. Convinced that he can't do love, he keeps himself at a distance from everyone who even attempts to get close.

When a chance encounter at the rodeo ring has Battle coming face-to-face with Faye, eight seconds it seems is all it takes to form a connection neither of them seems prepared for.

When Battle decides that Faye is worth putting his heart on the line, fireworks take over and the chemistry heats up! But the past creeps in, both for Faye and Battle, and tempers flare, words are said and feelings are hurt. Only when one of them is willing to put their heart to the test will they be able to find a future that they both so desperately want.

"Battle" is a low drama, high impact beautiful story about what a person will do for love. KJ Bell does it again with delivering book boyfriends that make our toes curl!

On a side note, I absolutely loved all the supporting characters in this story. I think they made a major difference and were an absolute gem of an addition!

The ending was beautiful and I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves a great romance. Battle and Faye are perfect for each other watching them bond then fall in love was absolute magic. Well written, this love story will take you through a roller coaster of emotions. I instantly fell in love with these two cheering them on for an HEA. The side characters where absolutely perfect as well. All of their plots run concurrent with our main characters and it was lovely to see them have HEA’s as well. I can tell Ms. Bell takes great care of her characters as though they are a part of her. I absolutely ravished this book in one sitting so I know you will too.

My Rating
4.5 Breakup, Business Trip, Bull Rider, Dakota’s, Jack Daniels, Wheat Field, The Middle, Proposal, McCoy, Cancer, Autism, Lost Friendship, Bloody Mary, Red Car, Blue Eyes, Lost Grandmother, Independent Daughter, First Place, Never Surrender, Anniversary, Gentry, Unrelenting love filled stars!

Great beginning, rushed ending

This book has great characters. I liked the angst built around Battle. I even liked his early attitude. The last several chapters felt rushed and odd to me, especially the revelation at 96%. I saw the tie coming earlier in the book but it was so briefly mentioned I'd forgotten. The explanation wasn't believable to me. The story of his family, that particular detail included, would've been known. There would be some kind of biographical info out there about Battle. It felt soap opera-ish to me and made me roll my eyes and groan. I am willing myself to keep my like of 60% or more of this book in mind for this final review.
A little more character development of the friends and a little less easy grace to the main character, as well as a more developed and believable ending, would make this book stellar in my humble opinion.
Pshh, gigantic kudos for the cover. Battle is hot and the image matched his description well, even seeming to capture his personality. Or maybe I'm kidding myself there, but who cares, he's hot.

Faye is pretty much a doormat when we are first introduced to her in this book. Her parents and her boyfriend Wyatt treat her like a little kid. Her father insists she needs a life plan and to stick with it and Wyatt insists that he needs a break in order to be ready to marry her. Faye meets Battle and finds herself in foreign territory by putting herself first. Battle has issues a mile wide and does not hold back from letting Faye know he has them. Faye puts herself out there for Battle, but under her terms. She finds herself falling for Battle and is pretty sure he feels the same. A tragic event happens and Faye struggles to keep hold of her feelings for Battle. Battle does not make it easy for Faye to keep hope alive. It was a good read and I read it in one night. I would recommend it for anyone who enjoys some angst and not over the top sex every two minutes during the book. It was well done.

I received this for an honest review. I have to say that this book just absolutely blew me away. The more I read from this author the more I fall in love with her work.
Battle is a rodeo star who has many responsibility's. Faye is the type of girl who has always done what was expected of her. Everything including staying with the man whop uses her as a doormat. NO MORE. Said boyfriend asks for a break and she takes this opportunity to do something for herself. Enter Battle McCoy (OH YES).
I loved this book because Faye started off as a doormat and ends up reclaiming her life and making her own decisions. I loved the relationship between her and Battle. This was an absolute joy and pleasure to read. Once I picked this book up I could not put it down. LOVED IT!!!!!

Sometimes you just need a sexy cowboy in your life & that was most definitely Battle McCoy for me!

4 "Go to war for me" Stars

This is a standalone novel & is completely in the heroine, Faye's, point of view. Faye is basically a total pushover in the beginning of the story, and it drive me nuts! She lets her parents, boyfriend & occasionally her friends, walk all over her. She always does what she's "supposed" to do & is never spontaneous. When she finally gets sick of her boyfriend's cheating ways, & finds her damn lady balls, her life completely changes.
Battle is a cocky bull rider, chalk full of secrets & major issues, so you know, just how we like them!

I so loved this story. It's a really enjoyable read. This author did a fantastic job with this story. The story flowed so well and the characters came across as real which I love. It's a really beautifully well written story that I inhaled in one sitting. The main characters Battle and Faye are brilliant. I also loved the secondary characters. They brought so much to this story.
I love stories bout hot Cowboys. This story is about a bull rider. Yes there are times you will be fanning yourself while reading this.

I loved this book! :)

This book was very good. I loved the story line the ups n downs of it. It isn't often u read a book that has good information tied into it the way this one does with autism. I don't like giving information on a story in the reviews so if u want details read the book. KJ Bell is an excellent writer n I love her books I recommend all her work.

Started off quite promising but then just turned into one big cliché! I thought I had the twist all worked out though, but I didn't. Two stars because I finished it. I think my problem is I've read too much of this genre. Maybe I need to start reading something else.

Sexy bull-riding cowboy, what's not to love. Battle McCoy, he's hot, he's sexy and he's broken. Faye is living the life that everyone else wants for her, but she's not happy. A sweet book, about pain, loss, love and faith to hold on.

Great job! I really enjoyed this book. I thought the big secret that came out at the end was a little too late in the game without much build up or resolution. Same with the Battle/Tucker argument...and the Tucker/Katie storyline. Other than that it was a good read.
