Labour Day weekend is when hundreds of thousand of students all across Canada say goodbye to their homes and move into residence at universities and colleges.

On Saturday 1,800 new McMaster students moved into residence. Another 1,400 will move-in on Sunday.

For many the transition can be scary and that’s why current students had the job to make them feel welcome.

Greeted by hundreds of current students, new students were welcomed with open arms.

It was a massive display of student comradery.

Most of these students are leaving home for the first time.

One student said it takes a lot of work and around 1,100 volunteers were going to help including students, staff and faculty for the weekend.

According to McMaster, the best advice for new students living in residence is to get out, joins clubs, meet new people and get involved.
