Countdown to Tip-Off: 2014 Seahawks Hampton Inn Christmas Invitational

2014 Seahawks Hampton Inn Christmas Invitational Tournament Central

WILMINGTON, North Carolina
– Basketball fans will have plenty of action to see over the next two days with the 2014 Seahawks Hampton Inn Christmas Invitational. To get ready for the four-game event, UNCWSports.com has prepared this edition of "Countdown to Tip-Off."
10 – Jacksonville State senior guard Candace Morton became the 10th player in school history to record 1,000 career points when she tallied 21 points against Central Arkansas on Nov. 29. She has started all nine games this season and leads the Gamecocks with a 13.6 point per game average.

9 – The Seahawks recorded nine steals against Richmond on Wednesday night, marking the third time in seven games they have failed to record at least 10 thefts. Through games of Dec. 17, UNCW ranks second in the Colonial Athletic Association by averaging 10.0 steals per game.

8 – Senior center Sarah Myatt led the Seahawks with a season-high eight rebounds against Richmond on Wednesday night. The Burlington, N.C. native had recorded just four rebounds in her previous three outings.

7 – The Seahawks have a 5-2 record in the previous seven "Seahawks Tomorrow" games. UNCW will host two "Seahawks Tomorrow" games this season – Dec. 19 vs. East Tennessee State and Jan. 9 against Charleston.

6 – Jacksonville State is playing in an in-season tournament for the sixth time in the last seven seasons. The only time the Gamecocks did not play in a tournament during that span came during the 2009-10 campaign.

5 – East Tennessee State has five players who are averaging at least 10 points per game. Sophomore guard Shamauria Bridges leads the quintet by scoring 16.2 points per outing.

4 – Charleston Southern has lost all four of its road games this season. The Buccaneers have averaged just 50.5 points per game in those four contests.

3 – UNCW sophomore guard Brie Mobley has tallied at least 12 points in each of the last three games, including a season-high 20 points in the Seahawks' loss against Richmond on Wednesday night. She is averaging 16.7 points per contest during that span.

2 – When Charleston Southern faces UNCW in the tournament finale on Saturday afternoon, the Buccaneers will be trying to earn their second win in the all-time series. The Seahawks hold a commanding 21-1 edge in the series and have won three straight contests.

1 – Jacksonville State and Charleston Southern have met just one previous time – a 64-48 victory by the Buccaneers during the 2000-2001 season at Jacksonville State. The two teams will square off in the second game of the tournament on Friday afternoon.
