May 27, 2015

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Ten of Boston College's athletic programs recorded a perfect multi-year Academic Progress Report (APR) score in a report released by the NCAA on Wednesday. Overall, BC saw its average APR increase almost two full points since last year's release.

Each year, the NCAA tracks the classroom performance of student-athletes on every Division I team through the annual scorecard of academic achievement, known as APR. The score measures eligibility and retention each semester or quarter, and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport.

The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 academic years.

The BC teams with perfect APRs in this report included: men's golf, men's skiing, men's indoor track, men's outdoor track, women's cross country, women's golf, women's hockey, lacrosse, rowing, women's indoor track and women's outdoor track.

The school's 10 programs with perfect multi-year marks ranks fourth nationally among FBS programs after Notre Dame (17), Stanford (15) and Northwestern (12).

Nine of Boston College's sports posted the top marks among the 65 schools that comprise the Power 5 conferences: men's golf (1000), men's outdoor track (1000), women's cross country (1000), women's golf (1000), women's ice hockey (1000), lacrosse (1000), rowing (1000), women's indoor track (1000), women's outdoor track (1000)

Boston College earned the third-highest overall average APR among ACC schools, factoring in all programs that the NCAA measured. The Eagles' 992.26 average APR followed Notre Dame's 995.35 and Duke's 993.73 marks. They were the only three ACC schools with department APRs higher than 990.

This year's average of 992.26 marks almost a two-point increase for Boston College since the last report in 2014, where the Eagles posted a 990.37 mark.

Nineteen of Boston College's 27 programs ranked recorded scores of 990 or better, including the 10 with perfect marks. In total, 25 of the school's 27 programs posted scores of 980 or better, and 25 of 27 teams bested the national average for their respective sport. The national average for all programs was 978, while the program average among Power 5 conferences was 985.
