Campbell Named Interim Head Coach of Men’s Basketball

AUGUSTA, GA (Men's Basketball) – A new era in Paine College men's basketball has begun as Chase Campbell has been named as Interim Head Coach of Men's Basketball for the upcoming season. Campbell assumes the helm of the Lion's after the departure of Coach Jimmy Link to Clayton State University.

Coach Campbell previously served as the assistant basketball coach since 2013. During his tenure, he helped lead the Lions to a 23-7 record and a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season title in 2014-15.

Campbell is no stranger to the Paine program, as he played under Coach Ronnie Spry during the 2008-09 season. As a student-athlete, he finished his career with 11 blocks, 13 steals, and 55 rebounds.

Prior to joining the staff at Paine, he was the assistant coach at Newberry College where he was responsible for the offensive program as well as many other aspects of the basketball program. Newberry was ranked fourth in scoring while Campbell was on staff.

Campbell's coaching career has come full circle, as it began here at Paine as a student assistant while he completed his undergraduate degree in 2012. Campbell, who transferred to Paine College following two years at Itawamba Community College, played point guard, shooting the guard and small and power forward.

He also served as an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Basketball head coach from 2009 to 2012. He coached Team Power and the Southern Kings.

"First and foremost I want to thank God for this opportunity - without him nothing is possible. I want to thank Coach Kohn and (interim) president Dr. Sullivan for entrusting the program to me," said Campbell. "I am ecstatic about the opportunity to be the head coach at my alma mater of Paine College, and for me this is my dream job. I look forward to leading this program in continued success. I am excited and ready to lead this program this upcoming season."
