Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Warriors out-last NDNU in overtime

TURLOCK — The run-and-gun offense was definitely on display again Tuesday night as the Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball team eventally out-ran Notre Dame de Namur, 81-76, in a non-conference tilt.

The Warriors took 81 shots on the night, 37 of them beyond the 3-point arch, and used a late surge to win in overtime to improve to 2-1 on the young season. The two Turlock products again led the team as Jasmine Washington scored 15 points with five rebounds and Camille Roberts made four more three-pointers for 12 points to pace the team.

Despite being out-rebounded 48-32, the Warriors managed to play the fast-pace style and put-up as many shots as they could. They overcame a 0-for-9 start from the three-point line and end up 11 for 37 on treys. That's just 29.7 percent shooting, but enough to get the job done.

It was Roberts who made a running three-pointer as time was running out in regulation to tie the score at 69-69 to force the extra period. The clock was set at 1.2 seconds after her shot, but the Argonauts (2-3) were not able to get off an attempt as the buzzer sounded.

Moments earlier, a Washington triple at 2:08 left pulled the Warriors within two after NDNU had gone-up by five, mostly by converting its free throw chances. Notre Dame de Namur had made 16 of its first 17 free throw tries before missing a couple down the stretch to give the Warriors the opportunity to even the score.

In overtime, Washington put Stanislaus ahead with a three-point play, on a made layup and free throw, for a lead the Warriors never relinquish. Riley Holladay scored five of her nine points in OT, all of them came during a 1:30 window to keep the Warriors ahead. Alysa Valentine then hit all four of her free throws in the final 10 seconds to seal the win.

Three Warriors — Valentine, Holladay and Morgan Roots — all ended up with nine points as 12 different players each scored at least a point. Roots made three of the team's 11 three-pointers. Aleseana Whitney and Cassidy Sanders-Curry each chipped in seven points to account for the balance scoring.

Because of the fast-pace game, Stanislaus also used its traps, and full-court press at times, to create 30 NDNU turnovers on 20 steals. Ana Burch had six of those steals for the Warriors.

Nanea Woods had 28 points and 13 rebounds and Kirsten Liana scored nine points with 12 rebounds to lead Notre Dame de Namur, which ended up 20 for 24 from the foul line.

Cal State Stanislaus has now scored 80 or more points in back-to-back games. The Warriors netted 87 points, on 79 shot-attempts, in Saturday's loss against Academy of Art.

The Warriors will take the Thanksgiving Weekend off before beginning California Collegiate Athletic Association play the following week at Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills.
