Man charged with historical child sex offences

A 62 year-old man has been charged with five historical child sex offences that allegedly occurred in Townsville during the 1970s.

The offences were allegedly committed in Townsville over a period of time when the victim was aged between 8 and 12 years old.

He appeared in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court today and will next appear on 19 May 2014.

Queensland Police arrested the man in Liverpool, New South Wales and extradited him to Queensland in relation to the alleged incidents.

He was subsequently charged with four counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16 and one count of attempted rape.
