Los Angeles is crippled with fear over reports that the city’s gangs have started a killing contest.
According to the New York Daily News, social media is spreading a rumor that two gangs are holding a tournament to see who can kill 100 random people in 100 days the quickest.
“People are afraid to go out the door. People are afraid to do this. Something has to be done,” local church pastor Willie McDaniel told ABC 13.
The terrifying tournament among two gangs purportedly targets anyone between Western and Normandie Aves. in Los Angeles.
It has sparked social media warnings from terrified residents under the hashtag #100Days100Nights and #PrayforLA.
“You’ve got everyday folks who have nothing to do with the gang lifestyle and culture scared,” LAPD Deputy Chief Bill Scott told the Los Angeles Times.
The merciless challenge, which started last week, was triggered by the death of a Rollin 100 gang member called “KP,” the Daily Beast first reported.
It’s unclear how KP died, but family members told the news site he would not have condoned the despicable killing contest.
“It’s making him look like a bad person. It’s not like he started this and got killed behind it. He had no control over what’s going on with #100Days100Nights,” a relative, who chose to remain anonymous, said.
Police have increased patrols in the area but say there is no reason to believe the social media reports are true, according to the Daily News.
That didn’t stop some in the Twitterverse, under the hashtag #100Days100Nights, for remaining terrified of the prospective killing spree.
