Some pretty spectacular power boats will soon be racing in our area. It's an event organizers say is like NASCAR racing but on water. And it will be taking place two weeks from now in Fall River.

Michael Lund calls himself a power boat enthusiast. And he's got the boat to back that up and the Marina in Fall River he owns, to house that boat. And now he has a marquee event he helped organize: Offshore powerboat racing.

This is the first time in more than ten years the power boats will be making an appearance in New England. But Michael lobbied and the organizers liked what they saw here in Fall River.

The race will take place on Sunday, August 16th. It's free. And generally well attended according to Lund, "when they raced in Atlantic City a couple of weeks ago, they got about 25,000 people.{} We're hoping to get at least that here."

So the race is on the 16th beginning at noon. The day before, Saturday the 15th is a practice day and that is open to the public.{} And there will be a number of viewing areas including lower Kennedy Park, the boardwalk and Battleship Cove.
