GOP Rep Steve King has been a long time supporter of the abuse, torture, and mistreatment of animals. Most recently, he has touched on dogfighting (this is not the first time he has). His reasoning to make dogfighting legal, is: since humans are allowed to fight, why not allow dogs as well?

King said "It’s wrong to rate animals above human beings." But, last time I checked- humans are not forced to fight to the death, for the humor and enjoyment of a crowd. Humans have a choice. 

As I stated in the first sentence, King supports the abuse of animals- not just dogs. In 2010, King tweeted that he had chased and shot a raccoon, because the poor creature had tried to enter his house during a violent storm. This is just one of the dozens of times the congressman has publicly supported the death of animals, of all sorts. He has also voted against bills that would make the abuse and mistreatment of animals a larger violation.
