When Jerome Kronberg, who is facing prosecution for investment fraud, dies in a fall from a mountain in Connecticut, there are some people who believe it was no accident. Some think it was suicide; some suspect he was killed by an irate client. Others suspect a more supernatural cause. According to the legend of The Black Dog, if you see the dog three times on the mountain, you die, and Kronberg had seen the dog twice when he took his last hike. It is The Black Dog that motivates Marcie Ducasse to investigate the death for her Weird Happenings Column in Roaming New England Magazine. While Marcie is dealing with a deadly dog, Amanda Vickers, her editor, is trying to decide whether to accept a proposal of marriage from her persistent boyfriend. Both women are forced by the events confronting them to dig down and find new sources of strength.
Now I know what you might be thinking, what harm could a cute, cuddly little black dog do? Yours truly is here to tell you plenty! When Marcie Ducasse investigative reporter turned amateur sleuth is called to look into a mysterious death in the wilds of New England, it turns out that there’s much more going on than first appears.
When climbing West Peak the Black Dog you do not want to see for it is said that if you do, an ill wind blows your way. Was the death of Jerome Kronenberg a supernatural event or a deed most foul? Danger and disaster are around every corner for Marcie and her colleague Simon in their investigation of this particular matter. The locals it appears have their reasons for not mourning the loss of the deceased and they are certainly not happy that Marcie is digging around in their business especially as she gets closer to the truth or uncovers any of their secrets. Will Marcie fall victim to the little Black Dog or will she discover the truth before more people meet with a fatal end? Be sure to curl up with a warm cup of tea with a little extra drop of something that will take away the chill that is sure to run down your spine as you are reading Glen Ebisch’s latest installment in his Marcie and Amanda mysteries. Be careful when you are climbing peaks, you don’t want to find yourself tumbling down into danger or death!
Excellent mystery about 3 men who are indicted for embezzlement. The supernatural part is that if a person sees the black dog, that suddenly appears out of nowhere and then disappears, three times, dies. One of the men sees the dog a 3rd time while out walking the towns mountain and goes over the cliff it's ruled a suicide. All three indicted men die of apparent suicide, or was it murder Marcie Ducasse who writes the "Weird Happenings" column for Roaming New England Mag. heads to Comford Ct. to see if this is a case of a supernatural happening or if some one is murdering these men to cover up his part in the embezzlement. A very fast paced read and a surprise ending, though I did figure it out before it was disclosed.
Another just ok entry in this series. I thought the villain was obvious.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
