Football Bumps Up To No. 23 In Sports Network Top-25
PHILADELPHIA -- With a convincing 42-7 victory over Columbia on Saturday and a 4-0 overall record, the University at Albany football program moved up one spot in The Sports Network Top-25 Poll to No. 23. The Great Danes are also receiving votes in the FCS Coaches Poll.
UAlbany is off to its best start since 2001 when the Danes began the season 5-0. UAlbany ranks first in the FCS with a +12 turnover margin (3.00), second in rushing defense with an average of 72.0 yards per game, and third in scoring defense allowing just 10.0 points per game.
The only other time in UAlbany's Division I history when the Great Danes were ranked in consecutive weeks was in 2012.
A national panel of sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries select The Sports Network Top 25. In the voting, a first-place vote is worth 25 points, a second-place vote 24 points, all the way down to one point for a 25th-place vote.
Up next, UAlbany's strength of schedule will get tougher as the Danes step back into CAA play, hosting James Madison on Oct. 4th. The CAA has proven to be one of the most competitive conferences in the nation, as New Hampshire and Villanova rank fourth and sixth, respectively, in addition to No. 12 William & Mary, No. 20 Richmond, No. 23 UAlbany and No. 24 Delaware. Maine, Towson and James Madison also are receiving votes in the Top-25.
