6 hospitalized, building evacuated after carbon monoxide leak at Lake Guntersville State Park

Multiple people are recovering  after a carbon monoxide leak at Lake Guntersville State Park's main lodge.

Shift Capt. Brian Walls of Guntersville Fire/Rescue said they responded to an emergency call at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday. They found increased carbon monoxide levels inside.

He said they found multiple people suffering from symptoms like headaches, dizziness, nausea and vomiting.

Six people were taken to a local hospital. Emergency crews said all were conscious when they were transported. It is not clear at this time what their conditions currently are.

The building was evacuated in the meantime. Firefighters estimate there were about 100 people inside.

The building was ventilated to let the gas out.

Walls said the problem appeared to be with the boiler ventilation system. Park maintenance officials will have to examine it to confirm this as the source.

AL.com has reached out to Lake Guntersville State Park for comment.

Guntersville police, the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, Marshall County Gas, and state park officials all responded, Walls said.
