A trailer for the upcoming Audio Visual Terrorism documentary on Original Nuyroican poet Jesus Papoleto Melendez...
Jesus Papoleto Melendez is a living legend. He’s one of the original Nuyorican Poets, a woefully neglected American post war poetic movement that had a huge influence on American literature and helped give birth to hip-hop. Shot in three days in El Barrio, New York City primarily on the fire escape and rooftop of the building that Papoleto grew up in as a child, the poet finds himself back where it all began. In a strange journey that would first take him from El Barrio, to the Bronx, then California and Mexico Papoleto winds up back in El Barrio on the very same fire escape where the fascination with poetry first took hold of him as a child. Papoleto talks with humor, wit, intelligence and a certain sense of melancholy that reflects the history of the Puerto Rican immigration experience in America, the Beats, the Black Arts Movement and the birth of the Nuyorican poetry movement through his life, art, politics and philosophy on the very same fire escape where it all began.
