The United States gave up a bad early goal to Portugal, but they started playing well just afterwards. They struggled to find a goal, until Jermaine Jones did this.
There have been a lot of speculative shots from outside the box by the USMNT in this game, but they haven't quite tested Beto. Michael Bradley and Fabian Johnson have come close without hitting the target, but it looks like there's a good reason they kept taking rips.
This is only the third goal in Jones' United States career, with the other two coming quite a while ago. His first was a big goal against Jamaica in the run to the 2011 Gold Cup final, while the second came in a friendly. And it's a big moment for him personally -- Jones wanted to play for the USA in the 2010 World Cup, but an injury kept him out of the competition. He's 32, so this is probably his first and last World Cup. Not a bad career-defining moment.
Pretty much every American after that goal looked like this.
