Golden Takes CAA Baseball Honors With Clutch Weekend Performance

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Casey Golden, who did his part in extending UNCW's season-high 10 game winning streak, driving in the go-ahead runs twice during a weekend sweep of Hofstra, was named Colonial Athletic Association Player-of-the-Week.

Golden hit an even .400 for the weekend, with six hits in 15 at bats. Of those six hits, four went for double and a fifth was a home run. Golden finished with five runs batted in. He shared the award with William & Mary's Charley Gould.

In the opener, an 8-6 UNCW win, Golden belted a two-run homer in the top of the eighth to provide the final margin and on Sunday he waited till the ninth inning before lining a two-out, two-run double to give UNCW a 5-3 win.

Golden leads the Seahawks with 11 doubles on the season with 27 runs batted in, also a team-leading total. He becomes the fifth Seahawk to earn CAA weekly honors.

The Seahawks moved up to 22nd in the D1Baseball.com poll which was released on Monday. UNCW also moved to 24 in the NCAA's RPI report after being 28th last week. In the USAToday/Coaches Poll, the Seahawks came up one spot short of being in the top 25 with 62 points.

The NCAA also released its national statistics on Monday and UNCW is sixth overall in winning percentage and 13th in batting average. The Seahawks are 28th in slugging average and 38th in total runs scored.

Jordan Ramsey, meanwhile, ranks 37th with seven saves and is tied for 20th with an 11:1 strikeout to walk ration. Ramsey leads the Seahawk staff with 44 strikeouts and has walked just four, one being intentional.

The Seahawks host North Carolina, both nationally-ranked, in a non-conference game on April 22 at 6 p.m. Tickets are on sale at UNCWsports.com or by calling the UNCW Athletics Ticket Office (1-800-808-UNCW).
