Hi Dive Team to Open Bar/Restaurant in Former Jelly's

Shuttered four years ago after a seven-year run, the former Jelly's space on the waterfront is set to rise again. It'll become a new bar and restaurant from Hi Dive proprietor John Caine. The Pier 50 location and the surrounding neighborhood have seen a lot of changes since Jelly's, a nightclub specializing in Latin and DJ music, closed down in the wake of a fatal 2010 shooting.

Since then, Mission Bay has hit peak desirability due to the the ongoing popularity of AT&T Park nearby, plus the forthcoming Golden State Warriors basketball stadium and other big projects like Anchor Brewing Co.'s planned Pier 48 brewery. According to Inside Scoop, Caine hopes to capitalize on the area's increased foot traffic with a huge, two-story bar and restaurant, with 3,000 square feet indoors and a whopping 6,000 square feet outdoors. The Ramp and Mission Rock Resort are about to get some new competition.

Though there's no name attached to the project just yet, it'll have a seafood-centric menu with a "classic San Francisco focus," offering dishes like crab, mussels, cioppino and wood-fired grilled meats. Consulting chef Terrell Brunet will be organizing the food offering.

In terms of layout, expect plenty of fresh air, with an upstairs deck (with ballpark views) and downstairs patio. A downstairs restaurant and bar, plus another dining room/private-events space upstairs, will offer indoor respite in the colder months. All told, capacity should total around 150-225 seats, and we're guessing there'll be ample TVs to serve the inevitable influx of sports lovers.

The new project still has the usual permitting hurdles to conquer, but they're a targeting a summer 2015 opening date.
