Spring 2015 Commencement ceremonies set for Friday, May 15

About 1,500 graduates will receive diplomas from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette during Spring 2015 Commencement ceremonies.

Undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees will be conferred on Friday, May 15, at the Cajundome and Convention Center.

The University’s General Assembly will take place at 11 a.m. Doctoral candidates will be hooded and will have their doctorates conferred at this session, which will be attended by all graduating seniors and faculty members wearing full academic regalia.

Jeremiah C. Sulunteh, ambassador of the Republic of Liberia to the United States, is scheduled to speak at the General Assembly.

The General Assembly will be broadcast on the Internet via a livestream.

Master’s and bachelor’s degrees will be conferred at ceremonies for each academic college. A schedule and locations are below.

Cajundome

  • 8 a.m. College of Education
  • 1:30 p.m. B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration
  • 4 p.m. College of Liberal Arts

Cajundome Convention Center - Exhibit Hall B (1st floor)

  • 8 a.m. College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions
  • 1:30 p.m. University College
  • 4 p.m. College of Engineering

Cajundome Convention Center - Festival Ballroom (2nd floor)

  • 8 a.m. College of the Arts
  • 1:30 p.m. Ray P. Authement College of Sciences

A total of eight students will be honored as the UL Lafayette Alumni Association’s Outstanding Graduates.

Each semester, deans from the eight academic colleges may nominate one student as an Outstanding Graduate based on leadership, scholarship and service. A selection committee with the Alumni Association interviews each candidate and selects one for the overall award. That person will be recognized during the General Assembly as the overall Outstanding Graduate.

This semester’s Outstanding Graduates are:

  • B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration, Trevor Bellard
  • College of Education, Katie Stefan
  • College of Engineering, Eric Regel
  • College of Liberal Arts, Emily Broussard
  • College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions, Valerie Groze
  • Ray P. Authement College of Sciences, Zadid Haq
  • University College, Aimee LaFleur

A total of six students who will earn master’s degrees this semester have been nominated as finalists for the first Outstanding Master’s Graduate Award.

The new award has been established to honor one student each semester who will earn a master’s degree. Each graduate program may nominate one student for the award, based on leadership, scholarship, service, and research.

A selection committee with the Alumni Association interviews the finalists and selects one for the overall award.

Three finalists for this semester's Outstanding Master’s Graduate Award are from the College of Liberal Arts. They are: Chasah West, Department of Communication; Christian Fontenot, Department of History, Geography and Philosophy; and Stinne Soendergaard, Department of Psychology.

The other finalists are Madeleine Richard, from the B.I. Moody College of Business Administration; Brenda Proctor, from the College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions, and Megan Tagesen, from the School of Architecture and Design.

Parking for the general public will be available at Cajun Field; motorists are encouraged to enter through Gate 4 on West Congress Street.

Security measures will be in place at the Cajundome and Convention Center. University Police officers will examine the contents of purses, bags, and packages of attendees. Extremely large bags or oversized packages won’t be permitted inside the Commencement venues.
