Man charged after driving through flooded road, Helensvale

Police are reminding motorists to exercise caution and common sense when driving in or near flooded roads, after a man became stranded in Helensvale last night.

Police will allege that the man deliberately drove his 4WD through flooded Siganto Drive, Helensvale at around 11pm. The road was closed due to flash flooding after recent heavy rain.

The man and two passengers became stranded and had to wade to safety. The floodwater rose past the bonnet of the vehicle.

The 46-year-old man was taken into custody, and charged with driving under the influence of liquor, and driving without due care and attention.

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on February 4.
