My cleaning bucket is over stocked but I would add: gallon of some type of mr. clean/pinesol/etc with bucket and cloths for cleaning walls (cheaper and quicker for me than painting), toothbrush, qtips because you just never know, orange oil for old wooden cabinets to make them look better, kaboom foam spray for shower cleaning, easy-off oven cleaner if it's not self-cleaning, clorox wipes, paper towels, windex, vinegar to mop floors (also use with baking soda to put down drains), broom, mop, toilet scrub brush, sponges, paper towels, trash bags, gloves, vacuum, step-stool. --75.67.xx.xx |

Those Mr. Clean magic erasers are definately on the top of the list. Swiffer floor wipes with the Febreeze in them work great for just about everything too. Leave the box of them open in the empty place and it will smell wonderfull- lots of liquid so they won't dry out. --107.77.xx.xx |

What is a Mr. Clean magic eraser and what does it clean best? I have seen them in the grocery store but have never bought one. They are kind of pricey too. --68.63.xxx.xxx |

Roy, the erasers are really magic. Not for cleaning counters or anything mundane like that. Think stubborn dirt on a textured white refrigerator handle for instance. Even bleach doesn't take it off. Scrub with the magic eraser - good as new.
Grungy old bathtub - nothing will take off the yellowness. Scrub with magic eraser: grunge gone. --173.22.xx.xx |

Professional cleaning people usually provide their own supplies, often from a commercial janitorial place. If you have to provide supplies, please make sure the person(s) actually know how to clean. Not everyone does, and it could cost you more in the long run than hiring a professional to begin with. --192.161.xx.xxx |

@Roy, I had cabinets that had been written all over by someone's child. Definitely pencil; possibly some sharpie? Maybe ink or crayon? The magic eraser was able to get the cupboards looking great again.
I like ammonia. Hot water + ammonia is good for soaking greasy things, like glass light shades, vent hood screens, etc.
A good pair of gloves, of course. :)
And I like the color-changing foam for bathtubs, and the HCl toilet bowl cleaner. --209.33.x.xxx |

To add to the list: Murphy's Oil Soap to clean cabinets and hardwood floors. Also to second someone's recommendation above - Kaboom. Have used Kaboom to clean some really soiled showers and it worked great. --24.98.xxx.xx |

for a scraper, I recommend a hard plastic electric outlet cover(an old broken one works fine). This very hard plastic is perfect for scraping anything, yet won't damage the surfaces. Try it. Better/safer than a metal scraper.

Fantastic
Gloves - yellow and surgical - we always wear gloves
sponges
ajax
The Works toilet cleaner - really cuts calcium
Old toothbrushes
3M pads
Pine Sol
Never Dull (metal polish)
Lemon Oil
Rags
The little blue toilet bowl things -that make the water turn blue. I know it's kind of 50's but it makes the water look pretty. :-)
I use a maids tray like at a hotel, and 1 and 5 gal buckets. - I should say my maid uses them -my days of cleaning are over.

Congrats! I would have the cleaning person buy their own. if they are a professional cleaning person they know what works.....a friend of mine hired a cleaning lady and she spilled bleach all over the carpet.... You can guess it- the cleaning lady blamed the LL because they bought bleach that was hard to open and they weren't used to that kind of bottle plus the cleaning lady wasn't insured! That's an expensive day for the LL!!!! CYA... --75.128.xx.xxx |

No one mentioned it yet-so I will jump in here. Oxyclean! It will clean MOST carpet stains (maybe not motor oil). I have saved many a carpet with it, and many a carpet-cleaning charge. For whole wall to wall cleaning use a shampooer but mix the oxyclean as the liquid. I have even saved the cost of replacing or dry cleaning expensive draperies in a house that were professionally made for a set of sliding glass doors w/a 12 ft span.
I filled the bathtub with hot water and oxyclean and just soaked them overnight. Next day drained the tub (dark yellow water), took the panels out (with a fireman's hold--these suckers were heavy!)and hung them on the line. I rinsed them with the garden hose. These were heavy silk mixture, fully lined drapes that you couldn't machine wash or hand scrub. I was amazed how good they came out. The hardest part was rehanging them when dry. --99.158.xxx.xxx |
