A familiar name from Grey’s Anatomy and Supernatural is joining CBS’ The Good Wife.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been cast on the acclaimed legal drama in a series regular role.

Morgan will play Alex, a “calm, experienced hourly investigator” whom Alicia (Julianna Margulies) hires in the show’s upcoming seventh season.

“We’ve loved and admired Jeffrey Dean Morgan for years, and we were thrilled to hear that Julianna did too, so it was a no-brainer to ask him to join our troupe,” said executive producers Robert and Michelle King.

Morgan is currently on another CBS series, Extant. He also recently starred in Texas Rising and Magic City. The casting follows a few major Good Wife departures over the last couple years, including Archie Panjabi’s Kalinda Sharma and Josh Charles’ Will Gardner, plus Matthew Goode’s Finn Polmar won’t return next season.

The Good Wife returns Sunday, Oct. 4.
