Lions Clinch First-Round Bye, Win Ninth Straight With Clutch 17-11 OT Victory at Wilmington

Newark, Del.- The Georgian Court University women's lacrosse squad clinched the #2-seed in next week's 2015 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament, as well as a first-round bye, as the Lions traveled to Wilmington University Saturday afternoon and defeated the host-Wildcats in overtime, 17-11.

GCU, victorious in nine straight games, finishes the regular season at 10-5 (6-2 CACC) and will take on the winner of Tuesday's #3 Philadelphia University-#6 Dominican College match-up in the semifinals next Saturday at 2:30 p.m. (hosted by Georgian Court).

Wilmington (6-10, 5-3 CACC) has secured the #4-seed and will take on top-seed Holy Family University Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.

In a contest that was back-and-forth all afternoon, neither club owned a lead of more than two goals at any point during regulation. The Lions entered intermission with a slim 8-7 advantage, but Wilmington would proceed to score the first three tallies of the second stanza to take a 10-8 lead with 17:10 remaining.

Georgian Court fired back with three unanswered goals of its own to regain an 11-10 surplus with just 3:34 to go. The Lions would hold that lead for the next 3:33 until the home team knotted the score in dramatic fashion as Wilmington's Sara LeBrun (Jr.-Bel Air, Md.) tied the affair with 0:01 on the clock, her fourth goal of the day.

The Lions would dominate the extra session, blanking the Wildcats, 6-0, to eventually secure the key "W".

Stephanie Lehner (3-4) earned the victory in relief action for the Lions, collecting four saves in 36:00. Wilmington's Corinne Dries (Sr.-Bear, Del.) went the distance, collecting six saves in the losing effort.

Melissa Williams topped the productive GCU offense with six goals and three assists. Callie Brown followed with five goals and an assist of her own.
