Colonels Travel to Corpus Christi for Clash with Islanders

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team will make the more than 500-mile trek to Corpus Christi, Texas to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
 
The Colonels (7-13, 3-4 SLC) will look to get back on track against a tough Islander squad after dropping their previous two matches 3-0 against both the University of Central Arkansas and McNeese State University.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi (12-13, 5-3 SLC) is coming off of a 3-1 loss to Central Arkansas but won their previous three matches over Northwestern State University, the University of the Incarnate Word and Abilene Christian University.
 
Last season Nicholls faced the Islanders twice, falling 3-0 on both occasions, but the team has brought a renewed energy this season, winning more total matches and Southland Conference matches than all of last year.
 
Kaci Eaton leads the Colonels' offensive attack with 284 kills on the year, while adding 199 digs. Ainsley Marroccoli has a team-high 424 assists, while Kalynn Egea leads the squad in digs with 388. Emily Weimer has a team-leading 50 blocks this season.
 
The Islanders are led by Brianna Brink, with 336 kills and Kristyn Nicholson with 771 assists on the offensive side. Ivy Baresh has a team-high 313 digs, while Brittany Gilpin leads the team in blocks with 59.
 
Nicholls will face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday before traveling to Houston Baptist University for a 1 p.m. match on Saturday.
