Tree LogoSouth Main Street/South Avenue Roundabout to be Closed Tonight

The Town of Wake Forest will close the roundabout at the intersection of South Main Street and South Avenue from 7 p.m. tonight until 6 a.m. Thursday, July 31. The closure is necessary to allow a contractor working on behalf of the town to re-install the roundabout's stamped crosswalks.

Detour signs will direct traffic around the work area. Motorists traveling north along South Main Street will be diverted right onto Elm Avenue, left onto South White Street and then left onto East Roosevelt Avenue. Eastbound traffic along Durham Road/NC 98 will be diverted left onto North Wingate Street, right onto North Avenue, then left onto East Roosevelt. Westbound traffic along Roosevelt will be diverted right onto North Avenue.

Advance warning message boards are in place to alert motorists, however, drivers should expect delays and are advised to seek alternate routes.

In the event the work is not completed tonight, the roundabout will be closed and the detour reset from 7 p.m. Thursday, July 31, until 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1.

The Town of Wake Forest provides this information as a public service. Motorists are reminded that weather and road conditions can change rapidly and should plan accordingly. When traveling through a construction area, drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are asked to be patient, proceed with caution and obey flaggers at all times. Planned road closures and restrictions are necessary to allow for a variety of work. Dates, times and work locations are subject to change due to inclement weather or last-minute changes in work schedules.

Park in the Direction of Traffic Flow

The Wake Forest Code of Ordinances mandates that parking on all streets within the corporate limits of Wake Forest "must be established in the direction of traffic flow." Therefore, motorists may not park along town streets with their "left side to the curb." Any vehicle parked along a town street facing the opposite direction from the flow of traffic is subject to a $25 fine.
