Caldwell Women’s Hoops Faces Philadelphia in CACC Semifinals

CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell University women's basketball team takes on Philadelphia University in the semifinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament on Friday, Mar. 6 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gallagher Center. This is the fourth consecutive year that the Cougars and Rams have met in the CACC Tournament, with Caldwell winning the past three games.

The top seed from the CACC North, the Cougars (19-10 overall) advanced to the semifinals with an 87-85 overtime victory over Goldey-Beacom College on Feb. 28 in the George R. Newman Center. Senior forward Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School), who was named the CACC Player of the Year, registered 25 points and 16 rebounds for her Division II-leading 23rd double-double of the season. Freshman guard Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, NY/Christ the King) scored a career-high 24 points while shooting 4-of-6 from three-point range and hitting all eight of her attempts from the free throw line. The win was Caldwell's eighth in a row and advanced the Cougars to the CACC semifinals for the fifth straight season.

Philadelphia (21-7), the No. 2 seed from the CACC South, defeated Dominican College, 82-63 in the quarterfinals. The Rams won the regular-season match-up with Caldwell, 81-66 in Philadelphia on Jan. 31. In last year's CACC semifinals, the Cougars eliminated Philadelphia, 81-52 in the Newman Center to advance to the finals for the second consecutive year. Caldwell also beat the Rams in the quarterfinals in 2012 and 2013 in the Newman Center.

Philadelphia University is serving as host of the CACC men's and women's basketball tournaments this year. Admission is $6 for adults and $3.00 for children, students and seniors per session. A fan bus is available for Caldwell University students, faculty and staff that leaves at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Sign up in the athletics office.
