Volleyball Caps Carnegie Mellon DoubleTree Invitational With Pair Of Sweeps

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The John Carroll University volleyball team has been nearly unstoppable as of late in weekend tournaments.
 
The Blue and Gold capped play at the Carnegie Mellon DoubleTree Invitational by winning the tournament title with sweeps over the host Tartans and Scranton on Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh, Pa.
 
With the wins JCU improves to 13-2 on the year. The Blue Streaks have now won their last 10 weekend tournament matches only dropping one set in the process.
 
JCU had to make a last minute stand in the opening match of the day and would go on to beat the Tartans 26-24, 25-21, 25-23.
 
Leah Switalski and Julianne McGervey combined for 27 kills. Reaching double figures in digs were Sara Kaminski (22), Kit O'Shaughnessy (15) and Mena Afsarifard (12).
 
Carnegie Mellon had knocked off No. 5 Mount Union on Friday night in four sets.
 
In the second match of the twin bill, John Carroll rolled to a 25-18, 25-21, 25-18 win.
 
Sarah Orlandi led JCU with 13 kills on 16 swings.
 
John Carroll opens up conference play against Wilmington at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27. The match will be part of a triple-header of Blue Streak athletic action. The men's soccer team will take on Geneva at noon and the No. 10 football team will host Baldwin Wallace at 7 p.m. all as part of homecoming weekend at John Carroll.
