Cannes Announces 2014 Short Film and Cinéfondation Program

While the Official Selection of feature films for the 67th Cannes Film Festival will be revealed tomorrow, the list of Short Films and Cinéfondation (which highlights student films) selections were both announced this morning.

This year, the Selection Committee received 3,450 short films, representing 128 production countries, of which 10 were selected to compete for the Short Film Palme d’Or, while 16 films made the Cinéfondation lineup from 1,631 submissions. Cinéfondation selects from cinema schools around the world, with Cannes noting a very significant broadening of this years scope, with a 38% of the schools being
selected for the first time and one country – Egypt – which has never
previously been selected. Also notable was that more than half of the sixteen
selected films (9) have been directed by women.
