Hello KYSITE!
In honor of Halloween, which is fast approaching, let's celebrate the 30th anniversary of the great film "Ghostbusters". Here's some trivia, thanks to shortlist.com.
- Despite being perceived as a New York movie, only three weeks of filming took place in The Big Apple.
- Aykroyd's first treatment was 40 pages long and was written with himself and fellow Saturday Night Live alumnus John Belushi in mind. Belushi died while Aykroyd and Harold Ramis were writing the screenplay.
- To give an indication of how big he was, the Stay Puft Man was meant to originally emerge from the River Hudson next to the Statue of Liberty. The plan was abandoned after it proved too difficult to shoot.
- Christopher Walken, John Lithgow, Christopher Lloyd and Jeff Goldblum were all considered for the role of Dr. Egon Spengler. Having got so close to the character during writing, Ramis felt compelled to play the part, thus resurrecting his dormant acting career.
And for the record, I saw an Ecto-1 replica car driving down a 2 lane highway this past weekend near Woodstock, IL. I only wish I had my camera ready (but I was driving).
Happy Halloween all!

KYSITE 2014 Leadership Development Program Wrap-Up
By: Vanessa Fritsch
I just wanted to take a moment to thank the participants and presenters who partook in the first (hopefully first of many) KYSITE Leadership Class. There were 15 "students" and several esteemed presenters who met once in September over two days and again in October over two days at the hospitable General Butler State Park Resort. The environment provided open discussions with a great mix of participants from city and state government as well as consultants. It turns out the qualities of a great leader are are the same no matter what your title or who you work for!
Some of the topics covered during the sessions included Developing Strategic Plans, Developing Leaders, Creating Positive Change, Effective Leader Communication, Demonstrating Character, Effective Relationships, Dealing with Difficult People, Mentoring, Conducting Effective Meetings, Identifying and Engaging Stakeholders and Evaluating Leadership Effectiveness.
Some pictures from the training can be found here.
Big THANK YOU to Bill Seymour and Scott Walker for organizing and presenting. Thank you to the other presenters, some of which traveled quite a ways to get here: Richard Atkins, Steve Cummins, Marshall Elizer, Ron Herrington, Dan Turner and Becky White.

Most Beautiful Streets in the World
This week's installment of The Most Beautiful Streets in the World comes from the opposite side of the world in Singapore.
|
Walking along Orchard Road in Singapore.
|
The tree-lined, well-manicured avenues of Orchard Road in Singapore complement a huge variety of shopping along Orchard Road. One hundred years ago, the street was lined with nutmeg trees and bamboo, says Rough Guides. Today, the trees are angsana and shoppers can visit dozens of restaurants and designer stores.

Reminder: Outreach Month
Don't forget that October is Outreach Month. It's your chance to talk about our profession (safety, careers, etc) to a younger generation. In case you can't fit it into your schedule this month, there's never a bad time to make a good impression on the younger generation. |

Do You Remember This?: Office Space Part 4
This week's Office Space quote, from one of my favorite character actors in the business.
''And I said, I don't care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I'm, I'm quitting, I'm going to quit. And, and I told Don, too, because they've moved my desk four times already this year, and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were married, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire....'' -Milton (Stephen Root) |
Have You Seen That?
In honor of the Kansas City Royals being in the World Series, it's appropriate to share the famous George Brett / Pine Tar incident.

And a bonus for those that don't like baseball, but still honors "Royals".
