MONROE, Conn. (WFSB) – A seemingly innocent question has landed a 4-year-old boy in big trouble and he was even banned from going to a local doughnut shop.

Justin Otero, 4, is a curious little guy.

However, his curiosity got him in some hot water at the Doughnut Inn over the weekend.

“There was a customer there and he asked her if she had a baby in her belly. She said, ‘no.’ He said, ‘I’m sorry,” said Rebecca Denham, Justin’s mother.

“It looked like she was pregnant and I asked her if she was pregnant,” he said.

Justin’s mother was mortified.

“My response was, ‘Oh my goodness, I’m so embarrassed. I’m so sorry,” said Denham.

Thankfully, the woman shrugged it off.

“She said, ‘No problem, I get it all the time with the kids at nursery school,” said Denham.

The managers at Doughnut Inn weren’t as forgiving.

When Denham walked into the store with the 4-year-old in tow on Tuesday, the regular customers were allegedly told to leave.

“She said, ‘He’s not allowed in here.’ And I looked around and said, ‘Him?’ And she said, ‘Yeah, he’s rude,” said Denham.

Denham says she had to explain the situation to Justin, and true to form, he has questions.

WFSB tried to speak with the managers at Doughnut Inn but were told they had no comment.

The mother and son say they plan to take their business elsewhere and are using this as a learning experience for the 4-year-old.

“Some people, unfortunately, are quick to pass judgement, and therefore, we will take our money and business elsewhere,” she said.
