The holiday season is underway in Metro Columbus, with plenty of activities for the whole family! Whether you are new to Central Ohio, or you’re a longtime resident, take time to enjoy some of the special events happening in December. We’ve hand-picked a few recommendations for you:
December 4. Welcome the holidays with the Grand Illumination of Downtown Columbus! Thousands of lights and décor will transform the Scioto Mile into a winter wonderland on Friday, December 4, in Bicentennial Park. Activities begin at 5:00 p.m., lighting ceremony takes place at 6:00 p.m.
December 4 through 6. The Columbus Symphony and Chorus Holiday Pops. Professional musicians, singers and dancers combine their talents to present a spirited celebration of cherished holiday songs. Guest star: Santa Claus! Evening and matinee performances. Ticket prices vary according to seat selection, see the website for details.
December 5. Grove City Christmas Celebration, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., in the historic Town Center. Enjoy shopping specials, visits with Santa, live entertainment, a parade and more. Visit the Mistletoe Market for one-of-a-kind gifts!
December 7. Experience holiday tradition in German Village! Stroll the historic streets of German Village amid glittering lights and festive carolers. Shops and restaurants will be open late, offering holiday treats, discounts and special promotions. Take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage and enjoy live holiday music throughout the evening.
December 11 & 12, 18 & 19, 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. December 20, noon to 5:00 p.m. Dickens of a Christmas. Travel back in time for the splendor of a Victorian-era Christmas at the historic Ohio Village. Enjoy 19th-century decorations, crafts, cooking decorations and fashions inspired by Charles Dickens’ classic tales. Admission is $12 for adults, $9 for children. This is an indoor/outdoor tour, dress for the weather!
December through January 4. The Columbus Commons Holiday Lights is an enchantment of 300,000 holiday lights. Stroll through the park at your leisure, then cross High Street and browse vintage storefront displays in the Lazarus Building. Holiday lights are on from dusk to 11 p.m.
December through January 3. Wildlights at Columbus Zoo! Immerse yourself in a dazzling light display from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Over 3 million LED lights compliment your unforgettable holiday visit! See live reindeer, special guests from the North Pole, and more. Admission cost varies, see Columbus Zoo website for details. Closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
