Tougher action must be taken against junk food and fizzy drinks if Scotland’s obesity epidemic is to be curbed, MSPs have warned.

Politicians on Holyrood’s health committee have urged the Scottish government to take radical steps to stop the over-consumption of fatty, processed foods and sugary drinks.

Two thirds of Scots are obese or overweight while 28 per cent of children are at risk of becoming overweight and 15 per cent at risk of becoming obese, latest figures show.

With Scotland already the fattest nation in the UK, ministers are considering new laws banning multibuy promotions of cheap food.
