Hillcats Dismantle Patriots for 91-46 Homecoming Victory

CLAREMORE, Okla. – All 12 players that saw the court scored at least two points as the Rogers State men's basketball team blew out Arlington Baptist, 91-46, on Homecoming Saturday night at the Claremore Expo Center.

The Hillcats held the Patriots to just 46 points on 35 percent shooting allowing the third-fewest points in program history and the lowest point total since keeping Carroll to 45 in the second round of the NAIA National Tournament March 18, 2011.

Frederico Santos set the tone early for RSU scoring eight points as it raced out to a 15-4 advantage in the first four minutes. The junior battled for two, three-point plays during the streak as the Hillcats pounded the paint outscoring Arlington Baptist by a 50-18 margin on the night.

RSU continued to push the lead using an 11-0 run going ahead 21-10 followed by another stretch where it scored 18-consecutive points closing the half with a 46-18 advantage holding the Patriots scoreless for nearly six minutes.

The rout continued in the second half for the Hillcats as they got the fans off their seats with a pair of highlight-reel dunks on back-to-back possessions on the fast break. DesJuan Newton took an alley-oop from Corey Ayala and threw down a two-handed slam, but not to be outdone, Jeylyn Sharpe tomahawked a one-hand flush again assisted by Ayala's steal.

RSU cruised to the Homecoming victory, 91-46, behind 32 bench points, including eight from Kyler Ng, who hit two of the team's three from behind the arc.

Santos posted a game-high 18 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double with the Hillcats while Newton and Johnathon Buckley came off the bench to score in double figures adding 12 and 10 points, respectively, as RSU finished the night shooting 51 percent from the floor going 28-of-55.

Brandon Bonner and Michael Howell led Arlington Baptist with seven points each off the bench but were beat on the glass by a 47-21 margin as the Hillcats grabbed 18 offensive rebounds.

Rogers State (2-2 overall) returns to action Tuesday night on the road in Ada, Oklahoma at East Central. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and can be heard live on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
