National Poetry Day Live

DE LA WARR PRINT 1500pix tallSouthbank Centre and The Poetry Society join together to celebrate this year’s ‘light’ themed National Poetry Day.

A group of Young Poetry Producers aged 18-25 curate a day of illuminating poetry readings, workshops and installations, and invite you to come and see poetry in a different light.

Throughout the day you can hear performances from the UK’s biggest and newest talents in poetry and spoken word, including Karen McCarthy Woolf, Michael Symmons Roberts, Rachel Rooney, John Hegley, and more.

The Southbank Centre will also be home to an exciting installation from prestigious poetry light artist Robert Montgomery, and offer you the opportunity to create your own light inspired artwork.

Poetry readings at Royal Festival Hall:

1pm – 2pm – A showcase of the UK’s best children’s poetry, featuring Joshua Seigel and Rachel Rooney.

2:15pm – 4pm – Poetry for young people, including Liz Berry, Imtiaz Dharker, slam poetry legend Joelle Taylor, and the first public performance by the newly-crowned Young Poet Laureate of London.

4:15pm – 6pm – An array of poetic talent, including performances from R.A. Villanueva, Karen McCarthy Woolf, Michael Symmons Roberts, and John Hegley.

The Clore Ballroom at Royal Festival Hall

1pm – 6pm, Free

There will also be a free open mic event at the Covent Garden Piazza outside London Transport Museum from 1pm – more details about that event can be found on the LTM website.
