Charges: building fire investigation, Bundaberg West

Police have charged a 17-year-old man from Avenell Heights with one count of arson after investigations into a building fire that occurred at Bundaberg West on July 12.

Around 3.20pm, police were patrolling the area when they observed large flames coming from the building within the old Bundaberg Showgrounds on Burrum Street. The building was being used to store furniture, clothing and other goods donated to assist families affected by the 2013 floods.

The building was completely destroyed.

No one was injured as a result of the fire.

The 17-year-old is scheduled to appear in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court today.
