HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Six schools and close to 300 athletes experienced the first ever indoor track and field meet at Houghton College as Houghton hosted the Highlander Invitational on Saturday.
Competing in front of the home fans, Highlander athletes performed well, including 10 personal bests and three NCCAA national qualifiers
"This was very encouraging for a lot of the athletes and our coaching staff," said Head Coach Patrick Hager. "One athlete that had an extraordinary performance was Kasey Cannister as she had two big indoor personal bests in the 200m (29.53) and 400m (1:08.53). She continues to work hard and reap the performance benefits.

Athletes qualifying for NCCAA nationals included Nikki Garns in the 800m (2:26.49), Cara Davenport in the 5000m (20:03.31), and Marshall Brady in the long jump (6.16 meters). Other highlighted performances were Andrea Melhorn taking 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the shot put (10.17 meters) and weight (13.42 meters), Jordan Cady, who finished second in the Triple Jump (12.47 meters), and Enrico Sukhdeo, who was thirrd in the 60m dash (7.34). Garns' result in the 800 and Cady's triple jump were each good enough for second place in the meet.
Houghton is back in action January 30-31 as they host the Highlander Open/Multi-Event.
