Fur isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when dressing for the desert heat of Calabasas, California, unless of course your name is Rihanna. The boundary-pushing pop star never fails to find inventive ways to take her outfits to the next level, and for a trip to yesterday’s Dior Resort 2018 show, she provided the audience with a front row preview of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Western-themed collection. Arriving in an off-the-shoulder fur piece worn with cuffed jeans, combat boots, and layers of turquoise jewelry, Rihanna succinctly captured the prairie-chic look that has been running through fashion of late, adding her singular “bad gal” spin. Topping things off with a stone embellished bolero hat and a fringe-trimmed Dior flap bag, she was in her element.

Though she’s capable of pulling off looks from any label, Rihanna’s long-standing relationship with Dior is special. As an ambassador and enthusiast, she serves as a prime example of the versatility of the French house; whether dressed up or down, she lends individuality to clothing that could be worn exactly as styled on the runway. By adding her long orange nails, gilded hoop earrings, and multiple chokers, she maintained her personality and added a dose of fun. While it remains to be seen which piece from Dior’s Resort collection Rihanna will try on next—with cave painting skirts, graphic caftans, and embroidered transparent dresses, the options abound—she’s sure to wear it her way.
