NORTH OGDEN, Utah - Authorities said the body of a woman found by a mountain biker is that of missing Ogden woman, 23-year-old Amber Lyne Smith.

The Weber County Sheriff's Office said they believe Smith went missing sometime at the beginning of April.

Deputies said she lived near the east bench of North Ogden and liked to go hiking.

Officials said her death is being investigated as a homicide.

“I was devastated," said Kylie Davenport, a friend of Smith's.

Davenport said Smith went missing in early April.

“When I heard that they found somebody on the side of the mountain I had a gut-wrenching feeling,” Davenport said.

Investigators said Smith was living with her fiancée, Myesha Majors, before she vanished.

“I love her, I do I know she was my soul mate, I know she was, we were going to get married,” Majors said.

Lt. Lane Findlay, Weber County Sheriff's Office, said they are investigating.

“We don’t' know if it was accidental, we're still trying to determine the cause of death," he said. "At this point it is ruled suspicious and we're investigating it as a homicide until it's ruled out."

Findlay also said that a missing persons report regarding Smith was never filed.

"We don't know if there was assumptions made that they were reported to police, but for whatever reason no one had contacted us to file a report," he said.

The Medical Examiner is working to determine how Smith died.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about Smith to call (801) 778-6638.
