2-month-old dies after vaccination

Mumbai: The RCF police has registered a case of accidental death report (ADR) on Saturday of a two-and-half-month-old boy who died after allegedly being administered a vaccine at a private Chembur Hospital the day before. The infant’s parents alleged that their son was given HIB vaccine at the hospital around 1.30 pm on Friday and he was found dead in the morning the next day at his Chembur home.“The HIB vaccine was administered as part of routine vaccination. After that the baby was fine, but this morning we found that he had turned pale and was lying motionless. We realised that he was dead,” said a family member.
The relative alleged that they took the baby to the same hospital again. However, the doctor and staff arrived an hour later and attempted to hush up the matter. RCF police senior inspector Dilip Raut said no case has been registered so far. “The infant’s body has been sent to JJ hospital for post-mortem. Based on the autopsy report and the inquiry report from JJ doctors, we will decide further course of action,” said Raut.
A police officer said the family has alleged that the baby died as a result of the vaccination.
