Want Free Tour Tickets and A Splitboard Setup?

Go Higher Giveaway

We’re giving away a pair of Higher tour tickets every day August 6th - September 4th, plus a chance to win a HIGHER splitboard setup.

Want to win two tickets to the Jeremy Jones’ Higher tour stop of your choosing and have a chance to win a Jones Explorer Splitboard paired with limited edition Higher Karakoram bindings?

It’s pretty simple–just show how you’ve gotten to a higher state by following your passions, as Jeremy aims to show in TGR's new film, Jeremy Jones' Higher presented by Subaru, coming this Fall.

Create a profile on Tetongravity.com and share a photo, video, or story about how you’ve pursued a dream big or small–could be mountain adventure, a recent road trip, or even just learning to surf–tag it with “Go Higher,” and you’ll be eligible to win two tickets to any Higher premiere of your choosing in North America. We’ll be giving out two tickets daily from August 6th until September 4th and the best entry will be our Grand Prize winner, who will be announced on September 5th.

Step 1: Create a TGR Profile on Tetongravity.com

Start at http://www.tetongravity.com/community/login

Step 2: Post your "Go Higher" Photo, Video, or Story

After you’ve added a Profile Picture, Cover Photo, and a little bit about yourself, click on Post A Story, Upload a Video, or Add a Photo-whatever kind of inspiration you fancy (keep in mind Stories allow you to upload both videos & photos into them)

Step 3: Tag "Go Higher"

At the bottom of your story, photo, or video, add “Go Higher” as a tag.

You can find the full list of entries here. We'll be announcing the ticket winners every Friday so check out the list of tour stops and find the one nearest you!

The fine print:

  • If no content has been submitted and tagged appropriately during one day of the contest, those tickets have been forfeited and will not roll over.
  • Entrants may only win once.

  • NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. NEED NOT BE PRESENT TO WIN. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR ODDS OF WINNING. Amazing story! Thanks so much for posting it here. So cool you found the lift.

Yeah, it really is, and TGR was the perfect forum for it. When I talked to the Deputy District Ranger for the area, the rec. Director, and some Special Use Permit folks out of Cody, they hinted to this provision that was stashed into NEPA - this is where the bigger find is because there is so much capital that goes into an EIS that it discourages expansion, but in an economy that could benefit from recreation activities as an alternative industry (Elko is primarily gold mining, the price of gold which has declined more than 40%, coupled with increased costs), a ski resort in this area could help mitigate the swings in gold prices (hedge)).

But, from what I understand, it’s been said that it’s nearly impossible to start a new ski resort, and even discussions with Tim Cohee, Royer, and Eric Simon are very convincing that a ski resort would be too capital intensive to start…but what if the model changes? What if an area functions as a training ground for AT and Backcountry advancement!, with limited lift-access, and with an emphasis on BC safety, snow conditions, Avy forecasting, etc.?

So, if we digress from the traditional business model for ski resorts for a moment - drop the focus on getting rich off real-estate - and focus utilizing the area (multi-use) on educating people about backcountry exploration, the area would make for a great “University” where people can have an actual canvas to learn how to analyze snowpack conditions (the area getting there is fairly prone to avalanches), and also get in a few turns too - an area that can offer people the progression from groomed resorts, to independent exploration of the backcountry.

The initial thought would be that it still could not happen because an EIS would be needed. However, in the aforementioned discussions, there are a few Categorical Exclusions that have been suggested that could allow the area to be re-opened, and without an EIS (similar to how Sleeping Giant, and a few others ski areas were re-opened).  What may be the provisions that could allow the theory to be tested lie in 36 CFR 220.6 (9), in addition to a few others therein (the “included, but not limited to” leaves some room for creative advancement of the Forest Service’s multiple-use objective.) http://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/36/220.6

But, there is no other forum to really give this topic the diligence that it deserves, except here, so thank for providing the canvas…hopefully some people can add more paint. : ) thanks for everything, Todd!
