By: Newburyport ArtWalk There will also be spontaneous individual gallery and group pop-up events throughout the year. The public is invited to take part in ArtWalk's free events, browse a variety of artwork in traditional and contemporary styles, shop, dine, and explore this historic port city's Cultural District. Future 2016 ArtWalk dates are: June 18th, August 20th and November 5th. A free brochure/map of all venues is available at participating galleries, the Newburyport Chamber of Commerce, the passageway between State and Inn Street and at ArtWalk Partners' locations. Among the special activities planned for April's ArtWalk are: Paula Estey Gallery (PEG): Enjoy a Gala ArtWalk Pre-Party on Friday night, April 22 from 6-8 p.m., with Jenny Lai Olsen's solo exhibition called "NEW TRIKE." The artist will be in attendance during this social evening at PEG's community-focused gallery. 3 Harris Street, Newburyport The Walsingham Gallery: An exciting new exhibition entitled "Blue Minded" includes works by more than 30 artists of both local and national acclaim, all of which feature ocean and water themes masterfully captured in seascapes, marshscapes, marine art and rivers via representational and abstract paintings. The inspiration for this exhibition came from the best-selling book "Blue Mind" by neuroscientists Dr. Wallace J. Nichols, who describes through a scientific and artistic lens why humans are so attracted to water. 47 Merrimac Street, Newburyport Spirit of Newburyport: Newburyport Art Association: Sweethaven Gallery: Sweethaven Gallery is pleased to present "Asia Wire Art" by Asia Scudder. The public is invited to the opening reception on April 23 from noon to 6 p.m. to meet the artist and enjoy light refreshments. Sweethaven Gallery is also home to stunning landscape images of Newburyport and Plum Island by photographer Greg Nikas. 25L Inn Street, Newburyport 36 Liberty Street Studios: Experience the ethereal paintings of artist E. Tobin Eckian on the first floor, and Portrait and Fine Art Photography by Kiki Larouge on the second floor of this shared studio space. Special Guest Artist Saya Cullinan from Saya Studio Handbag Designs is bringing her gorgeous one-of-a-kind handmade creations to KLP and refreshments will be served. 36 Liberty Street, Newburyport Indigo Artist Studio/Alan Bull Studio: Three artists will be in represented in paint and print in "Portraits and Places." Meet the artists and enjoy food and drink on Saturday, April 23. Sarah Winderlin's series of chicken portraiture is a departure from her customary mixed media and landscape work. Artist, teacher and illustrator Alan Bull will feature figures and portraits on wood. Mary Arthur Pollak uses a mix of mediums and printmaking techniques to create her unique prints. 53 Middle Street, Newburyport Connor Summers Gallery:. Spring arrives at the Connor Summers Gallery along with new works of art that are guaranteed to inspire. Among the works on exhibit are the figures and florals of Gordon Przybyla, slate carvings by Michael Updike, interiors by Marcia Hermann, large floral pastels by Janice Eaton Updike, and photographs by David Stone. Also on exhibit are Equestrian and landscape paintings by Cathy Connor. 48 Market Street, Newburyport Valerie's Gallery: Meet Connie Rosseti, painter of small works, from 1-4 p.m. and Anke Ueckert, jeweler, from 2-6 p.m. on Saturday, April 23 at Valerie's Gallery. 26 State Street, Newburyport Firehouse Center for the Arts: "River's Edge," an exhibit of oil paintings by John Sheedy that depict classic seasonal scenes of Newburyport and environs along the majestic Merrimack River, is on view at the Institution for Savings Art Gallery at the Firehouse from March 30th to April 24th. Market Square, Newburyport About ArtWalk The 2016 Newburyport ArtWalk events are held four Saturdays a year. They are free and open to the public. A collaborative of galleries offer special exhibitions, artist demos, lectures, tours, and visual art all within easy walking distance in historic downtown Newburyport. Local restaurants, cafes and coffee shops also display original art on a rotating basis.
