Police officer assaulted, South Brisbane

A 22-year-old man has been charged following a violent incident in South Brisbane where a police officer was assaulted.

At around 9.00am police responded to reports of a man allegedly causing a disturbance in Browning Street.

It will be alleged when police arrived a man rushed at a female police officer knocking her into the police vehicle and onto the ground.  The man then allegedly punched the officer numerous times to the head.

Members of the public assisted in restraining the man whilst a second officer deployed a taser to subdue and arrest the man.

The female police officer was transported to hospital where she was treated for her injuries.  She has since been released.

The 22-year-old Browns Plains man appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court charged with serious assault police caused bodily harm, two counts of wilful damage and other unrelated matters.
